Has anyone shot with the Panasonic AJ-HP64EL 64 Minute DVCPRO HD tapes?

I was wondering how the quality is and if there's any difference in picture compared to shooting onto the P2 cards or portable drive.

Also, what are the differences between the three Panasonic DVC Pro HD tapes. And why the price range between $25- $125?

No matter what tape you put in the camera it's still only going to shoot DV. That is inferior to the DV 50 and DVCPRO HD you'll get on P2.

Only way you could use DVCPRO-HD tape with an HVX is to cable the HVX via firewire to a DVCPRO-HD tape deck, and put the tape in that external tape deck. If you did so, the picture quality would indeed be identical to what gets recorded on the P2 cards.

I guess then it just makes sense to go with an FS drive and skip the tape completely.

It sucks that the Sony can record HD directly onto tape but not the HVX.

It sucks that the Sony can only record HD in the HDV codec and not to professional codecs like DVCPro50 or DVCProHD with variable frame rates and 4:2:2 color space.

Of course, Abaddon is the Devil and we shouldn't listen to a word he says!

:)

He's so much worse than the Devil! The Devil isn't completely ignorant of how the HVX works. (I know... be nice. I apologize. But I couldn't resist. I was just kidding anyway.)

The only camera that can be compared with the HVX200 is the cheapest varicam, NO OTHER, don´t get confuser about it, period.

The devil loves and uses HDV... used to be pixelvisiion... and then after that it was VHS-C...

There is not a DVCPRO tape that fits into the HVX200. It will only accept a DV tape as that is all that it records. We recomment the MQ or the AMQ series of Panasonic DV tape.

The most cost effective and high quality solution that exists with the HVX200 is to shoot 720P onto a cheap 4GB p@ card, then inside tha camera just export to DV. I use the Panasonic DVM63 DV Master Tapes, which yield outstanding recording stability. This way, you don't need to pop out the P2 card, just shoot and record to DV, over and over with beautiful results.
