HVX suggestion...

Since the HVX footage is digital and stored as a digital file, I think a cool feature would be if you could place a slight, translucent overlay of a previous clip on the LCD while shooting. This would be GREAT for those of us doing compositing and effects work. It would also come in handy when you need to return to a location and match a previous shot perfectly.

How about it Panasonic? I don't think there's any other camera out there that can do that.

You can do something along those lines (a split screen) using DV Rack. HVX200 support is in beta.

Been almost 10 years now Barry.... I got one the day it came out and got laughed at by a lot of "professionals" who thought it was for weddings and home videos. I actually shot the first commercially released all DV product in the US... there was no firewire then to edit with... hd to dub everything to beta!

Editing in those early days was painful and infuriating. Anyone remember the DPS Spark card?

I shot one of the first DV "movies" on that thing, and we edited it on Premiere 4.2 on a FAST "DV Master" system. Talk about your bleeding edge, that was *painful*. But the VX1000 was an absolute breakthrough camera!

My first capture card was the Iomega Buzz! Used that with MGI Videowave and then Premiere. :D Man I still remember when I first used DV and iMovie. I was blown away. The ease of that program made me switch to Mac and the I quickly found my way to Final Cut. Tech has come a long way. I remember feeling like a baddass when I got an external 60gig firewire drive...so much room! HA!

I am 33 and you just made me feel ancient... when I did desktop publishing back in 1990 we spent over $1000 on a 100MB external HDD... it was thought at that time that it would be "almost impossible" to ever fill it up...

I've been thinking along the exact same lines.
I reckon it could be a firmware update: even though the playback and camera functions seem to be very segregated in the camera as things stand, I reckon there might be a way for them to allow a 'frame grab' from an existing clip, or the use of a properly formatted image read from an SD card to overlay the display in camera mode.

This would be GOLD. I can't stress enough how wonderful this would be. Please, please, please, prettypleaseprettyprettysugarontopprettyplease?
