We're currently using a couple of HVX's to capture a new generation of stock footage for the ARNG. They just recently had a uniform switch, so everything from the last 20 years, up to and including much of the war on terrorism footage is now totally unsuitable for marketing purposes....so here we are.

Yes, it's small, but that's all I have for you guys right now. This was just a quick edit I did for a few the soldiers that had to leave the shoot early so they could show their families/friends what they were doing for 2 weeks. Overall it's pretty slick stuff to get a chance to film. Next year we'll do it with the RedOne though :)
 
footage looks nice, but i agree that there is a little bit too much slo mo goin on there. lulls a little bit.

i'm guessing the idea of the footage is to showcase the new face of the NG. in that case, slow motion and lots of it is good, gives you a good look at the garb and gear.
i enjoyed the piece very much, and now i think i'm going to go play some "battlefield 2" on xbox...
 
Much of the Slow-mo is insurance. 99% of the audio captured in this shoot will be thrown out the window, so shooting at 60p gives us the option to slow mo it or kick it back up to 24p at will. For this particular video, I used a lot of it in standard slow mo form because it was made for some of the soldiers involved in the shoot, and they liked to see themselves in slowmo glory :)

As for the high shutter speeds with the aviation footage, well, I'll be honest in that it's damn hard to fit any kind of stabilizer on a military helicopter (I'm 5'6 and I BARELY fit in the OH-58 we used as a camera ship with a hand held HVX) , so I typically shoot at a high shutter speed, slightly wide, and then do some magic in Shake and smooth things out as best I can and add some background plates to make up for the whacky movement of the frame after stabilizing. If you're shooting at anything less than 1/250 and do some post production stabilizing, then you're likely to get really strange ghosting of your image in all kinds of weird directions even if you get a perfectly stable image....it wasn't much of an issue in SD, but HD is the devil like that.
