Hello All,
I thought I'd start posting some thoughts and pictures of my HVX setup.
First off, i'll list my setup. I have an HVX with Dan Dianconu's MPIC, Follow Focus, and gears. I went with the best camera sub 10k in my mind, so decided why not go for the best 35mm Adaptor. Dan is a genius. He also built a frame or rig for my camera that allows me to mount it upside down, as i didn't want to have to bother flipping anything in post. In final cut, why waste precious processing power with a flip when i can use it for other effects, that's my thinking anyway.
I also have it all mounted on rods thanks again to Dan, and bought a Matte Box off Ebay.. it's a real film matte box by Arri and mounts perfectly.
The prime lenses i'm using are a 35mm 1.4, a 55mm 1.2 and a 85mm 1.4 all by nikon, all from Ebay as well. I also bought a brace to mount the setup, as it does get rather heavy.
The only things i'm waiting for is the Cineporter, or something better, and although i bought a Xenarc 7" LCD monitor, i think i will still get a Marshall. They both have the same resolution of 800x480 but the Xenarc has only composite and 15pin VGA, and as we know the HVX has component, composite, and svideo. I haven't yet been able to figure out if the 15pin vga on the Xenarc is compatible with the Component out on the HVX. It may well be, but the amount of adaptors and wires is getting obnoxious.
I recently bought a Jib Lite from Stanton, aka www.jimmyjib.com If you want to know about quality craftsmanship, these guys are in the lead. This is a piece of art. I also got a 32pitch film gear that works perfectly with Dan's gears for my Nikon lenses. The Xenarc mounts well on the jib as they supply a BNC cable for the composite. I can't express enough how amazing this jib is. Ramping on the pan and tilt, as well as speed.. yes it's all motorized. With the focus control you have speed and focus range so again it works PERFECTLY with the Nikon lenses. Plus, when i upgrade to my RED, it will be far from obsolete.
Ok, i'll try to figure out how to post some pics next.
