HVX SD output while shooting HD?

I thought I saw this in another thread but wasn't sure so here is a new one.

I have an SD Steadicam. Can I shoot HD 720 or 1080 with the HVX and still be able to monitor through the rig? My gut says probably not. Like many of you, my camera order has not been filled yet.

If not, does anyone have any suggestions for a low-cost/light-weight HD/SD converter? I know that low-cost and light-weight usually dont occur in the same price point.

Thanks!

I don't think there's been a definitive answer yet regarding whether the composite and s-video out send out SD while shooting HD, but the answer is likely yes... search around for the thread on the Marshall monitor; actually they may have tested this!

Yes you can monitor SD while shooting HD. The s-video and composite ports are always active and always putting out an SD downrez of the HD signal, and you can also configure the component outputs to downrez HD to component SD 480i.

Thank you Barry. I can wipe the sweat from my brow.....I was getting nervous about not being able to use my rig. Thanks for all you do and the knowledge you share with all of us.

Now if we only knew the chip size to be able to calculate DOF and FOV. Any ideas?

Is there any way to monitor SD while monitering component at the same time?
The component plug seems to incapacitate the 2 SD ports.
