HVX + PS Technik Short

Hello,

I know I posted this a while back, but it was on The Lot and looked awful.

Anyway, you can check out the short film here:

http://exposure.cbc.ca/video/all-about-oscar

It was shot on the HVX at 1080p with the PS Adapter and some nice High Speed Primes (18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 85mm @ t1,8 and 100mm, 135mm @ t2.1)

The compression is of course obvious but you'll get the idea. In May, the short won 3rd Runner-Up at the PetStyle & GenArt Online Film Fest and was amongst the Official Selection at the Nickel Independent Film Fest in Newfoundland last month.

Please check it out, and rate it if you wish to help me out!

Thanks so much.

I really like it! The close-ups communicate the settings and action very well. And the acting is solid too... the boy is definitely an identifiable and sympathetic character.

But I think the tears maybe push it a little over the edge, not because I'm on the verge of bawling my eyes out or anything, but just because as audience members, none of us really want to see children cry, especially in such a light-hearted piece. At that point I was kind of hoping that the conflict resolution would come soon (and if it didn't, it probably would have been too long for Web) but, luckily enough, it did!

My only other feeling was that a narrower frame might have worked better here—maybe a 1.78:1 or Academy AR rather than 35mm. Maybe you had/have intentions to show it in a theater, I don't know, but for Internet purposes, I prefer those resolutions.

All in all, very nicely told.

P.S. I'm an avid watcher of On the Lot (much as I despise how it's been handled)—was this ever aired, or a featured work on the site? I haven't seen it until now.

Thanks very much IRecord for the kind words and support. Feedback goes a long way. I definitely have to agree with you about the aspect ratio and the web. i chose anamorphic simply because i love it's compositions. ultimately, i didnt (and dont) want the web to be it's only distro. cinemas at fests is what i was aiming for. but i'll definitely keep the aspect ratio in mind when it comes to future web stuff.

as for the lot, no it never aired, but it did collect almost 10,000 views and still has a 4.5 rating!

thanks so much,

rk.
