Finally checked the price today with my local authorised dealer. Currently at about (on todays exchange rate) 4,535 USD. The JVC HD100 is abot 7000 USD here.... erm makes the choice easy really.

What can I say...MAD cheap. I've been preparing for about 7000 EUR here when it arrives...of course, without P2 cards... You could buy almost 2 HVXs for that prize. Enjoy and have a good day.

does the japanese version have english menus? i live in philippines and am having issues with getting an HVX shipped here. any english friendly dealers out there in the land of the rising sun?

I think the Japanese version would have the ability to select the language between English and Japanese... obviously you'd want to verify that before relying on that though!

I planned a trip to Japan last year.... and couldn't go..... this just might catapult me there this summer!

I purchased my HVX and 4 8gig p2 cards here in seattle from proline panasonic dealer for $7,000 including tax

yeah right,
but they forgot to tell you the important part:

That was the cost for the four, 8GB P2 cards alone.

hehehe

Sorry forgot to check back on this thread but heres the link to my local dealer:

http://www.pv-station.com/

And todays exchange rate

JPYUSD=X 522000 Jan 21 0.008672 4,526.927341 0.008672 0.008674

Price does not include p2 cards.

Supply is NTSC only and all menus for HVX are in english.

The JVC is much more expensive here. About 700000 yen.

I asked a dealer in Japan for a PAL version and he replied that eventually he will get some PAL versions.

Thank you Pete! - Du machst mir Mut :) - My wife is driving me crazy wanting to see Japan for about 1 year or so.... well... this might be a good reason for a short trip later this year - if Europe doesn't offer the price I'm looking for. But I got the 5990 Euro excl. taxes confirmed from that dealer I mentioned: he pretains to be a "Panasonic premium partner" and if 5990 Euro excl. tx is the starting price, then between summer 2006 and christmas 2006 the price can easily drop towards 5000 Euro. Observing the prices on the video-electronic market, I often could observe drops of up to 30% from the list price (e.g. harddisc-dvd-recorders) within 1 month... or Panasonic HD-ready television prices even more than 30% within 3 months after price-list release!!. It's really too much speculation to tell the prices of the PAL versions of different countries and different seasons already today, but I'm sure that we will be able to easily find an HVX PAL version for 5500 Euro INCLUDING TAXES til summer. Wanna bet? :)

ncje,

nice link to that store. It's about 7000 yen (65 bucks or so) cheaper there than System5, who I usually use. www.system5.jp . Not sure what the price is in the U.S., but maybe some serious money can be made buying here and selling overseas......hmm.....
