HVX PAL (1080 @ 25p) Ghosting

Hello

I've shot some footage at 1080 / 25p on the HVX (via a firestore) and I've noticed a weird ghosting problem when I import the footage into Final Cut. For example on a close up of a face when the head moves or the camera moves the nostrils (the darkest part of the image) get left behind. The camera was set to to shoot in 25p and the shutter was at 1/60 (180.0 d)

Has anyone else experienced this problem, is it something to do with pulldown in Final Cut Pro? I assume as with the DVX and PAL 25p there is no need to apply any pulldown pattern?

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Bruce

That's motion blur resulting from a shutter speed that's too long for the amount of movement by the talent or camera.

Damn...I was hoping you wouldn't say that! oh well! Weird that I shot at 60??? Thought you wouldn't get that sort of ghosting??

Then maybe the display that you viewed the material on previously has a ghosting issue. Is any of this visible when you step through the footage frame-by-frame in FCP? You need to figure out if this is a recording problem or a display problem.

Another development..

If I reduce the strength of the blacks (make them quite milky) the problem disappears??? I've also noticed a similar problem between cuts (if there is a strong black on the screen it seems to linger in the next cut for a moment.

I believe the laptop didn't show the ghosting because its a much brighter screen and therefore the blacks weren't so strong anyway.

All very strange!
