Hi im very interested in buying an HVX200, but i was wondering if anyone knew if its worht it to wait for the next model, any comments would help. Thanks

Get what you need when you need it. There is no timetable for a new model to be announced. Don't buy something you don't need, and when you do need it, choose the best available at the time you need it.

Sage advice from Barry.

I know a guy who wanted to buy a Pentium computer. He decided to wait because he heard they were coming out with a Pentium 2. When those came out, he wanted to wait because surely they would come out with a Pentium 3. Then he waited for the Pentium 4. He finally got one but while he was waiting for the next version, I bought a computer and was being productive all that time he was still waiting.

If you want or need the HVX, get it. It's not like you can't recoup some of your money when or even if the HVX200a comes out.

Besides, with the ability to upgrade via firmware, it may be a while before the next version comes out anyway.

There will always be a knew version on the way, eventually you just have to suck it up and put down the cash. I went two years without getting a DVX100 (and just renting/borrowing instead) because I kept wondering when the new model would come out, then if the XL2 would be better, then if I should wait for the HVX200. By the time the HVX came out, I finally said screw it, I'm sick of waiting and I know this thing is worth the money. Sure it'll be suprassed sooner or later but I need a camera and this thing is great.

The story of the DVX is what is making me wait.

The 100, 100a then 100b all came out within a couple years.
I think the HVX200 is a bit "clunky" and feels like a first generation for sure.

I am looking forward to a full revision that refines the HVX; It is not nearly as nice to work with as the DVX100a that I have.

It's all about what you need.. If you need to shoot the best HD at the most affordable cost with features that are known to work, then get it.. If you are just a window shopper, then hold off till a product drags you in..

nice? It's much nicer, with more features and better quality... What do you want it to do?

I had the original dvx and the dvx100a ( I still have it). I bought an HVX. I regret selling the Original DVX because it gave a better picture than the dvx100a. The slow shutter options of the dvx100a, better lcd and focus assist on the progressive modes where what made me change to the A. I still love the a, but the footage I got with the 100 were better. As for the HVX, I already shot two International TV Spots with it. My opinion? The best purchase I could have done. Take it to a professional post house with TC color grading, and they'll say what they think of it compared to HDV...

And I can edit it no problem, realtime, no hassle, with great results, on my Powermac or Powerbook (old Powerpc), without the processor intensitive hassle of editing HDV.

You can always buy the camera now and then sell it when the new one comes out. Keep it in good condition.

The only thing that's holding me back from buying an HVX now is the bum deal on the P2 cards. I can't see myself spending over $1000 on a puny 8GB card.

So for me it's not the camera that's keeping me waiting, it's the practicallity of the P2.
