HVX or HMC

I posted this here because I have a DVX so yeah

I plan on purchasing a new camera this summer/late spring

I am going to sell my DVX (with 145hrs on it) and buy an HMC or HVX with that money + the rest to cover it...

What do you all suggest?

Looks like the HMC would suite me, but I still don't understand what the advantages are for the HVX, sounds like it can shoot SD and HD which wouldn't matter to me, and I will occasionally be shooting in sub 32 so the manual focus flowing smoothly is important.

On eBay, HVX's run about $400-$800 more so that isn't too bad for the difference your paying for.

I'm still stuck.

yeh but ur paying for p2 not only the camera.

If ur gonna be shooting in cold weather get some kinda focus assist device cuz the hmc/hpx is goin to leave u stranded.

The HVX is obviously a much better camera, but I would rather get an HMC and save money. Plus the media is a hell of a lot cheaper! It's hard to find a HMC on ebay since they are so new, but if you're lucky, you might find a HVX package with 1 or 2 P2's...

I'm waiting for a macbook pro to have a blu-ray burner, then my hmc150-b will get purchased. I would go with the hvx right now, only because you can get a hvx100a. I have a dvx100b, that cam got review 2 times, and got redone. I want a hmc150-b. Go hvx, they are more proven, for now atleast.

yeh i wouldnt say its much better. more frame rates and more dependable media yes. if u can live without that then hmc150 is for you.

The HVX is obviously a much better camera,

I wouldn't go that far...

The HVX has advantages (variable frame rates and more reliable codec), but the HMC shoots beautiful footage and kicks the HVX in the ass when it comes to low light performance.

Plus, it's lighter, the media is cheaper, and transcoding to PRO-Res in Final Cut is a great workflow.

when it comes to low light performance.
Only if talking about the original HVX200. The HVX200A is identical to the HMC150 in low light performance.

and transcoding to PRO-Res in Final Cut is a great workflow.
But not transcoding is even better, and that's something you can do with the HVX.

It has its advantages, but the HMC150 definitely has advantages as well.

... or HPX?
If you don't need mini DV tape (which I guess you don't, if you're looking at the HMC), and can afford P2, have you considered the HPX170? (just to add to the decision making difficulty!)
