hvx or dvx100b for 16:9 SD

I'm looking for opinions from those who have used both cams (the hvx200 and the dvx100(a/b).

I am looking to shoot the best looking SD footage I can in widescreen format. I know the HVX200 has native 16:9 chips as opposed to 4:3, so in theory the HVX will have better looking SD widescreen footage. Have any of you had a chance to compare the difference in the two cameras shooting widescreen? Is the HVX worth it (simply for SD)? I know the many benefits of upgrading to the 200, but I am looking for your opinions strictly based on 16:9 SD footage.

Thanks for your help.

DVCPro50 is gorgeous!!!! So much better than DV. If you're really looking for the "best" looking SD footage, and it's between those two cameras, there's no question --- go HVX.

The HVX has the advantage of being able to shoot SD in DVCPRO50 at 4:2:2 color sampling, as opposed to DV's 4:1:1. Not to mention that the HVX shoots native 16x9.

You can only shoot DVCPRO50 to P2, correct? Not to Mini DV tape?

If you shoot in DVCPRO50 on P2- what is your typical workflow? Do you let the camera convert to DV tape and then capture in your NLE (which for me is Premiere Pro 2) or do you convert the files with Cineform or some program similar and let your your NLE do the work?

Thanks for your help. Sorry for the newbie ?'s...

DVCPRO 50 only to P2 indeed. Buy 2 prferable 3, 4 gig p2 cards. Or 8 gigs ofcourse. You shoot DV50 and edit in DV50 timeline. If you want it to minidv, you just copy your project to dv timeline and write it to tape. This way of converting is better then do it in-camera.

The sharper CCDs, sharper lense, and higher color depth means that the HVX200 is going to give you a nicer SD image. Not to mention if you origionate in 720 24pN then you'll also get the variable frame rates.

It is not real practical to shoot DVCpro to P2 but the 16:9 chips will make ALL the difference in the world... also get a single P2 card for the frame rates and do an in-camera dump to DV.... voila...
