HVX or DVX that is the question....

I'm new to this community, but from what I've seen so far there is a ton of knowledge on this board.

Here's my question; I'm currently thinking of purchasing the HVX200 purely do to the direction of the technology, and oh yes the output quality! But I keep looking at the dvx cam also, due to it's ability to put out good output also. I guess the other thing regarding the hvx is the noise question, is this resolved or is there even an issue?

My point is I have the money to go either way.

I'm looking to get some discussion going on which direction.

What I'm shooting: shorts, music vids.

Sorry, I didn't hear you the first time; could you post your question again, please?

KIDDING!~!!

Depending on your skill level, and intended use: the DVX is a very viable cam and one that produces excellent results. The HVX is top-of-the-line latest technology. If money is no object, the HVX is probably better, BUT: as many have stated here, with the 2k $ you save on a [new] DVX you can buy other equipment (assuming you are new to all this).

I hit the darn submit button too many times... thanks for the input. I have seen some great footage with the dvx. I have also compared the dvx to hvx footage.. WOW mega difference. But you would expect that.

When does broadcast go HD only? I heard it was 2007

They're both excellent choices. Keep in mind that the HVX is $2,000 more, so you have to factor that into the equation. If you can afford it, by all means no doubt about it no questions asked -- get the HVX. It's everything the 100B is and more more more more more.

But-- if money's tight, and it'd be a stretch to get the HVX, the DVX100B has a lot to offer. It's a fantastic little camera that was responsible (between it and its predecessors) for this massive community of DVX users. And with the $2,000 price difference you can buy a great tripod, monitor, microphone, some lights, and all sorts of other production gear. If money's tight the 100B is a good choice, but the HVX is better in so many ways (yet it's $2,000 more, as it should be).

I guess the other thing regarding the hvx is the noise question, is this resolved or is there even an issue?
Never was an issue. It exhibits exactly the same noise as the 100B does, and the 100B has less noise than the 100A, and the 100A is the biggest-selling most-popular camera in Panasonic's history.

That's not to say that the HVX is noise-free, because it isn't. But the noise is completely reasonable and on par with all the competition (except the super-clean but super-slow Sony) and is totally not a problem.

Thankyou sir! your comments are very helpful. After reading a lot of posts on this site it is easy to get confused as to what is what.

Its helpful to compare footage from the hvx, so the more that are posted the better.

Thanks again....

Cheers, Neil.

Broadcast may never go HD-only.

Broadcast is slated to go DIGITAL in 2007 or 2008 or 2009, it's so hard to keep track because they keep changing the date. But that has nothing to do with HD. Stations will be broadcasting SD for years and years to come. They'll just be broadcasting it digitally instead of analog.
