RocketBoom is this quirky video blog about tech subjects. They were fans of the DVX100, but recently went to the new Sony HD cam for the better resolution and 16:9 apsect ratio. But today's episode (03-08-2006) treats with the HVX!

Amanda gives her own opinion about the economics of tape vs P2 cards...

Uhm...what proof does she have that tape will outlast, say DVD for archival purposes? I have mini DV tapes from 1997 that have drop out issues.. Oh what the hell, let's go back to Hi-8...wasn't that fun?
I think we on this forum have embraced the future...even if our wallets fell out of our pockets while attepting to do so.

BTW, if the HVX does not do a 16:9 ratio, what the hell are we thinking????

Dude-

I think you are reacting a little defensively. Amanda is a humorist and mild eye candy who talks about geek stuff. I'm just tickled that she devotes a whole episode to the HVX.

I think her point is that, for her purposes, tape is the most sensible archival method. I doubt that the RocketBoom people are worrying about how many dropouts they risk, say, three years from now.

your right...that's pretty cool. Didn't mean to be defensive. Maybe I'm just jealous 'cause I'm still waiting for my P2 cards to come in...
cheers

I just bought a pro sony Hi8 player recorder for CHEAP off ebay. Although I'm just using it to transfer all my old Hi8 masters.

She has nice assets and that's why she's there..but yes, annoying... and once again, nice assets.

Well, the guy being interviewed certainly likes the camera... As for the girl.. I mean, who cares what she says? She doesn't even know she can capture direct to laptop with the HVX the same way she's taping the show...As for Blu-ray being less reliable than tape...A whole diferent discussion altogether. Its more about compatibility vs long therm corrosion.

You can basically just go to a studio with your project masters and rent a dvcprohd deck for mastering your footage to tape... This shouldn't be too expensive, I think...
