HVX on camera light?

Hi all,

I'm lookin into getting an on camera light for my HVX, i've been lookin around at different posts and sites for a few days and have found a few possible options, just wanted to ask on here what people are using and how happy people are with the light they chose?

I have taken an in depth look at the vidled deluxe which seems to be a very good option for me, any thoughts?

I need the light for shooting wedding receptions and dark parties etc, so nothing too bright as i dont want to blind whoever i happen to be filming, the warm vidled seems suitable but could do with some reassurance,

Thanks in advance,

I have a Frezzi MFK-4xk 75 watt mini fill light with a soft box and I really like it. Is having a dimmer improtant for you?? For parties and receptions, it think it works wonderfully. As for batteries, the lighter ones are more expensive but may be worth it. I wish I spent the extra money and got the lighter one. Next time...

I'm a huge vidled fan - I use the standard version with the panny batteries and get a good 8 hours from the 5600mah ones. Mines daylight balanced so I gel it for indoors and not for outdoors. I enjoy the flexibility there. I'd go daylight if you are doing weddings. Would let you go outdoors, indoors, with large windows, etc. The best thing about it for me is the long battery life. The dimmer is nice to though when you need just a tad bit of fill.

The question is how much "throw" do you need -- i.e., how far away do you need it to light up stuff? The Frezzi has great throw, the Vidleds probably have very little (like the LitePanels or other soft sources). But the vidleds will draw very little power (meaning you don't need a 10-pound battery belt hanging around your waist, like the Frezzi needs!) :)

Soft light sources are beautiful for close-up work, interviews, etc. But they won't do much at all for illuminating a wide scene, at least not as compared to a tungsten light. But the tungsten light (like the Frezzi) is gonna be much more power hungry and get very hot.

You might want to think about a ringlight like the kino kamio, Plenty of frow and its soft too.

Thanks for the help, i think the vidled suits my needs best, for the vidled users out there....which option would be best, the dayled, warmled or coolled, i'm slightley confused about the daylight balanced situation? The light would mostly be used in darkish, interior locations but must not be too intrusive to the subject for example when filming the first dance at a wedding or walking through a busy club?

thanks again

Hey how come no one ever mentions the pag light c6. It's a great little light and has both options of hard and diffused light....with barn doors and is focusable. I've got one and need to sell it due top it's collecting of dust, I don't think that's what it was designed for(:

Well I use both dlang and the pag light is still very direction, even with the diffuser on. I would say if you are considering the frezzi the pag light is a good alternative.
On the VidLed side, I would say go with the tungsten balanced light if you will mostly be shooting indoors. I have the strongest one because I was worried about throw and gelling it basically everytime I shoot event videography gets very old.
