HVX OIS Problem?

I run and gun a lot with my HVX. So, OIS is usually turned on all the time - even when on a tripod because I can, at any moment pull the cam off and go hand held. I have noticed though what seems to be a sticky OIS. When on a tripod I can be getting a locked off shot and all of a sudden there is a jerk in the picture on the flip-out. It's like I slightly kicked the base of the tripod and the whole camera jerks from a small vibration. However, I am not touching the camera at all. Makes me wonder if the motors/devices controlling OIS are "sticking" then freeing up, creating the jerk motion.

I used to use my DVX100A with the OIS on all the time and never saw this. Anyone else seeing this with their HVX?

It's a known deal that you have to turn the OIS off on a Tripod. The OIS will mistake intentional movement or slight movement as unintentional.

Turn it off. Then turn it on.

yeah. Don't use the OIS when on a tripod. It's unnecessary, and you are just going to create that unpleasant effect. It only takes a second to hit the OIS button, so just get into the habit of turning it off while shooting from a tripod and turning it back on when you remove the camera from the tripod.

OIS is always an approximation. I personally think it's way better on an HVX than any other cam I've used. I still don't use it most of the time, but it's nice for handheld stuff.

Using the OIS can lock the stabilisation mechanism "hard over" with vigourous movements and is not adviseable on car mounts for example. It is advised not to use it on tripods in the manual for the same reason.

Dont ask me how I know about the car mount issue!
