Hi all.
I'm planning to buy the hvx200 before the year's end to take advantage of the current promo's. My question is, how possible is it to convert ntsc hdv footage to pal? I will mostly be doing video for pal land though I'm based in the US. The final product will mostly be on dvd. I don't wanna buy the pal version since it doesn't have any panasonic promotion. Will I be able get good pal converted video without stutter?
Thanks for your help.

And just to give you another option:

In EDIUS Broadcast 4, you can not only make the conversion from NTSC to PAL in realtime, you can work with both formats on the same timeline.

Meaning, you can choose PAL project setting, and mix and match HD, SD, 3:4, 16:8, NTSC, and PAL all on the same project timeline, and all in real-time.

You better hurry if you're going to buy the HVX before the end of the year. It's almost here

Best of luck to you with your purchase (remember authorized dealer = peace of mind)

Thanks a lot guys. That really helps to know that I can do both formats without loosing quality and resolution. Can vegas do this conversion well? I don't have a lot of money to spend on extra software. The other question is.... how do I watch my after post hd footage on my ntsc hdtv? DVD is only about 540 lines, so how would I watch hi-def without forking out $1000 for blue ray?
Thank you.

You dont! Once you make a regular DVD it is no longer in HD. The only way to view it in HD is by burning a HD DVD or Blue-Ray and then playing it back with one of those players.
As a side note, a lot of PAL dvd players, will play ntsc made dvd's. Also there is another option for conversion that is supposed to be pretty good and not that expensive.

I couldn't tell you that for sure. But, also... as was hinted at. Most pal dvd players will play an NTSC dvd just fine. So, you could also feasibly just film, edit and burn NTSC, and your PAL viewers "should" be able to view it just fine.

I believe it was Barry who once mentioned he's never had a PAL viewer complain about one of his DVD's. So, you may not even need to worry about conversion.

FCP doesn't convert, Compressor does, and there's very, very little loss in quality that I have been able to see, if any.
