HVX noise vs. DVX100B noise

So many questions about noise...

Here are two files, taken directly off the cameras, in raw DV format. Each file is around 40 megabytes, being about 10 seconds of a DVRack gray chip chart. I matched settings and exposure reasonably between the two cameras. I figure the chip chart will show noise in various tones.

These are DV .avi files. You can download them to your computer and play them through firewire to a DV camera and see the actual image on your television.

I don't know how long my bandwidth will last, but as long as it does, here is what the noise performance ACTUALLY IS. Please right-click and "save as..." so as to preserve what bandwidth there is... :)

Wow! Can't wait to see these, Barry! Thanks for posting (downloading now)! One question . . . I only have a non-A DVX100 to compare with at home. How would you quantify the decrease in noise of the DVX100B to a plain-vanilla DVX100?

First thanks Barry to post them.
The second one from Hvx200 it's not in dvcprohd mode (we're talkin' about the dvcproHd's noise in various threads), so you are saying that it's the same noise of dv mode? Maybe it would be more important to see what level of noise does WHEN is in dvcprohd mode? Sorry, I'm not expert as you if this information is already clear from this two examples.
But if you can put a DvcproHd example with DVRack gray chip chart (or maybe one for Hd) to see how it works, I think it would be better to judge.
I'm pretty sure that you can use the same chart to see noise in Hd mode.

Thanks again,
you're very precious for myself and for community too, as ever.

Barry, I can't see these. What was your conclusion?

Also i'm curious when we looked at the HVX we saw noise in odd places - like in certain chroma specific areas - ( a yellow towel) and remembered you saying that Adam Wilt had said something about "chroma sub sampling " noise.
I have no idea what that is.
Have you looked for stuff like that.

I am not complaining BTW, we were not systematic enough to evaluate that & it may have been due to settings.

Well, it's a great compliment day, specially, if it came from a free spirit like you! :) Grazie caro!

Thanks Barry for posting the viddy links.
I Haven't had time to thoroughly examine the noise, but I did notice some purple fringing coming from the HVX. I checked the DVX footage, and it wasn't there, but the HVX had some noticeable along the lower right hand corner of the chart around the lightest shade of white. I've seen this happen often with digicams when the pixel density is too great for the lens to properly resolve.
Anybody else's thoughts?

Grazie a te! eh eh...a free spirit!:engel017:
I'll become a ghost if I don't go to sleep...!
This community is a sort of "addictive drug"! Till we'll buy the camera we're doped by this community, then will be still doped to post ours footage!

Those look pretty low noise to me. I guess gain was 0 ?
Remember, this is a gray chip chart with little color information. Add some chroma in the scene, and voila, chroma noise!

Don't know, didn't try it. But I'll soon post a shot in all the DV modes (DVX100B in 4:3 & 16:9, HVX in DV 4:3 & 16:9, HVX DV50, and downrezzed 1080p & 720p to DV -- DVCPRO50 slays!)

I'm also digin the HVX a little better. Noise looks the same, color of the blacks look better in HVX. Not sure if that is set-up or not - still I am a little suprised it is this close. I am still shooting with a 100 and looking for the next move...

Email me if you need me to host the files to save you bandwidth.

Thx again but now in advance! And we'll be waiting, as well, with those anti-noise settings (with & without) as available as possible.

BTW, did anyone see these thread's files? (I'm on dial-up)

I guess the purple fringing is negligible, but wouldn't it become more noticeable on a larger display and/or for projection? No comments on this?
