my hvx was working fine the other day but now it will not connect/stream via any firewire unless i have the switch in the back set to "tape". when it is set it to "p2", there is no 1394 message on screen and the menu options are blued out to "1394 control ext" and "1394 cmd sel stop". these are the right settings but the fact that they are not changeable when they always were in the past tells me something is wrong with the cam. the problem is not the cable and not the firestore. the hvx 1394 port is not working in p2 mode. does anyone know of a way i can reset or reinstall the firmware? i don't have time to deal with panasonic or spec-comm (where i purchased the camera from).

so i reset the cam as per manual instructions...nothing. i removed the sd card to format it with panasonic's formatting software via their website but realized i didn't have an sd card reader. i randomly decided to select "user file" under card options even though there was no sd card in the cam and i never saved a user file but as soon as i chose "yes" the menu options for 1394 were editable in p2 mode. i switched them back and now it works fine. must be a weird firmware glitch but at least it's something to try if it happens again to anyone else.
