Hey everybody just bought an HVX200 for 2800 on craigslist, so i signed up with DVXuser. Now that i have this camera, i wanna learn how to use it. haha Should there be a clicking sound when i point my camera up and down. it sounds like something loose inside. i was also wondering the easiest way to learn this camera. wheres are all the magical websites with good tutorials. youtube isn't doin it for me. thanks

download the manual from panasonic's website, it is pretty comprehensive, and will also explain the clicking sound...

Check out the HVX Bootcamp DVDs in the DVXUser shop and Barry Green's HVX Book. Both are excellent and detailed introductions to your new camera.

I agree with Jason. I upgraded from my DVX100A to th HPX-170. Though there are differences between your camera and mine, there are a lot more
similarities between the two. I bought Barry's bootcamp DVD's as well as his DVD on Sound for TV, Films etc.

Well worth the investment. He really explains things in a very concise and easy way to understand.

Welcome to the forum. There are some very knowledgeable people who are always willing to help out.

Welcome steve. This is the best place on the web for HVX info.

Here is Barry;s DVDs. If you are a complete beginner this is a must. This camera is incredibly complex. It is easy to use but to really get the most out of it I would invest in the bootcamp DVDs.

Yea. I ditto. Barry Green's videos, including his one on sound are great!

Another set that I really like is for lighting and green screen.

Everyone that I sell any of these products to say that they have learned so much just from the DVDs.

The other thing that I would suggest is to go and just use your camera. We talk to so many people here on the boards that get so caught up in the specs and things like that instead of just going out, making mistakes and learning how to shoot.

You have a great camera, enjoy it! :)

Here you have another supporter of Barry's book and DVDs. A sound investment of your time and $.

I wish there was something like it many years ago when I started this voyage. It took me a lot of books and hard learnt experience to get things that Barry puts in a very easy and comprehensible way.

including his one on sound are great!
i dunno... i bought that sound dvd, hoping to uncover some long held industry guru secrets... and really found none. the disc is very rudimentary. i think it would be far more accurate if the phrase "...for people with absolutely NO audio knowledge whatsoever." were added to the title

Well, we do say "basics" and "first step" and "simplest techniques" all over the disc cover and in the product descriptions . . .

So, we pretty much tell you what you're going to get. However, we also consider it well beyond any other DVD on sound at the intro level, with our in-depth looks not only of how to do things, but why -- the science and physics behind it -- and we try very hard to keep it entertaining and engaging, and funny. We've won multiple awards for it -- Tellys, Accolades, Avas, Videographers . . .

And lots of people here found it to be exactly what they needed.

now i didnt say it wasnt an entertaining watch. and it IS a very well done video. just a good deal more technically rudimentary than i was expecting.

no offense intended.

I had quite a bit of experience with live sound, but little "on the set" experience, so I found it quite helpful.

The Barry Green/David Jimerson Sound DVD is great.

It's your fault for expecting to "uncover some long held industry guru secrets", not the producers of the video.

And it's false to say it's for people with "no audio knowledge whatsoever". I'm a musician with a home studio and plenty of audio knowledge, and yet I found the DVD to be very informative as it pertains to capturing audio on a film set.
