HVX Multi-Camera Switched Shoot

I am looking for some ideas on how to best fulfill a clients wishes using two HVX cameras, a switcher and a hard drive recorder. The client insists on 1080 recording which makes recording the three hour event near impossible to P2 cards then finishing it in post. At the moment I own (6) 16 Gb cards. They want a fast turn around, so they want a complete program from the punched down output from the switcher.

What is the most reliable hard drive system to record the switcher output? Is there a way I can make a redundant record system to ensure success? Might it be best just to do a taped recording of the switcher output and digitized the tape for DVD output?

I appreciate any insights and clever solutions.

Hello,

Why a switcher? Is it a live event where they need a feed to encode/broadcast?
How mobile are the cams?

3 hours continuous shot is simpler using a HDD recording solution, but a one reliable with 1080 (ie the full recording chain/system).

Cams positions & movements are to be taken in account for deciding the cam-DVR link.

I shot multicams with mobile & redondant RAIDs (caged, rackmount, spare & UPS) and fiber optics link, but I did not assess an end to end 1080 shot/system, yet.

The RAID rack makes edition immediately available.

A "no P2/no tape" multicam shot must seriously be prepared, using redondant and ruggedized products, if you expect to keep a peaceful heart rate!

My first "no P2/no tape" made me very nervous, even if I prepared 1000 "what-if?", but succeeded.

Thanks for writing Jennyparis. The switcher is because that is what the client insists on because he hates post production - nothing I can do there.
The cameras are fixed position cameras for basically a talking heads program. I have gotten away from the idea of coming out of the switcher to a RAID recording because it scares the hell out of me. We are going to switch the cameras and feed a Panasonic HD deck. Yes, going to tape and then digitizing to go into FCP to produce DVD's. Seems a bit like going backwards but that is what we decided to do. Now I'll be able to sleep in the days leading up to the shoot.
Best
