HVX + Letus Extreme + Cine Lens Set

Hi,

I am shooting a music video next week, the video will be shot during the day and at points have fast camera movement. I have hired a Letus Extreme, Opticka Elite cine lens set 18mm, 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, -T 1.3 and a Panasonic HD Monitor to use with my HVX. It will be the first time that I have used a wide angle lens adapter and cine lenses and I have a few questions to prepare me for the shoot. Any answers would be greatly appreciated as I will only have an hour with the equipment to practice before the shoot.

  1. With camera movement, what shutter speed is good and safe to use with the Letus and Cine lenses?
  2. What f.stop points should I stay between?
  3. Is my focusing point from where the Letus is attached to the HVX? if I use a tape measure to measure focus distance.
  4. Once I have attached the Letus and a lens do I zoom in with the HVX to a certain point to fill the frame and then tape the zoom down so it doesn't move?
  5. Will the focus assist work through the HD monitor? If not, as normal, would I zoom right in and focus then zoom out? Also how does this work if I have taped the zoom down?
  6. Would you recommend using a 4" x 4" Circular Polarizer filter with my matte box if shooting outside? and if so do I do a white balance before I add the filter or just use a white balance preset?
Sorry for all the questions, I would be very grateful for any replies.

Thank you.

1. Depending on the look, keep it at 1/120th or under
2. on your camera, aim for F5.6 and the letus at F2.8-F4 (F5.6 can show grain structure)
3. If your letus 35mm lens mount is correctly alligned wit hthe GG, the point of critical focus will be exactly where the support screw is located ( i believe ) But always best to check by eye.
4. This is common practice, so a very good idea.
5.The focus assist only works with the camera LCD. So having a HD monitor will provide the needed resolution to get perfect focus every time. I have the Canon XH A1 and i use the peak function and get fairly close to perfect focus, but i would imagine having an external HD monitor would ease my job 10 fold.
6. Again, it depends on what you are going for, but i would strongly recommend getting some ND filters to use instead of the in camera ones.

happy shooting!

Thanks for the speedy reply! Just a couple more questions.

1. Depending on the look, keep it at 1/120th or under

I am going to be shooting some at a faster frame rate, is this ok to be at that speed. Also when you say 'keep it at 1/120th or under' is that between 1/120th and 1/200th? or 1/120th and 1/50th

2. on your camera, aim for F5.6 and the letus at F2.8-F4 (F5.6 can show grain structure)

So is it safe from grain if I just keep my f.stop on the HVX exactly on F5.6 or is it better to have slightly less apeture to keep the image clean .

Thanks again.
