Has anybody found the shot in the Departed that was shot with the HVx? It was only one shot but im interested to see which one so when it shows up I can spot it.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the shot of a mouse or rat near the end of the movie walking along a rail or banister in a home. From what I've read on this, Scorsese was in New York viewing through I-Chat on his computer, what this awesome special effects guy (can't remember his name) and his small crew in Southern California were filming with the HVX in real time. This article went on to say how this saved lots of $ and time. I believe the article went on to say how well the shot blended into the rest of the footage. The article was mainly about Scorsese's leap into the high-tech digital age of moviemaking. Check out Barry's "Who's Using The HVX-200" thread above. Hope this helps.

is that digital blood now when i think about it?

The view from the window looks digitally composited. Nevertheless, it had to be Scorsese who has shot the finest, even if it is simple, HVX footage I've seen so far. Does anyone know what the whole rig consisted of?

As I suspected it is a digital composited shot! Visual effects supervisor Legato had to replicate the set in LA and insert a background plate of the Boston skyline.

Scorsese and Schoonmaker were ensconced in her editing room in New York, the set for the sequence had been struck, and Scorsese and Schoonmaker needed a particular “metaphorical piece” designed by Scorsese to fit with a particular musical bridge. They asked Legato to replicate the set and shoot the bit in Los Angeles. He responded not only by doing so, but by inviting them to remotely watch him film the sequence by transmitting a DV signal to a computer in New York using Apple iChat technology, then uploading the shots to an FTP site for Scorsese and Schoonmaker to instantly test with their cut and give input just minutes later.

That is not the shot.

That is not the shot.

I talked with Mr. Legato when he came to UCLA. The shot that I know of, maybe there was more than one shot with the HVX, was when he needed to show a hand or something holding up a picture frame. He used a stand in and quickly took the footage to rush it to the director before they were about to do a final print.

The only thing that looked similar between Mark Walberg and Matt Damon was the haircut.

yeah its possible im just surprised... infact its easy and you can tell it digital buts really good.

has anyone noticed that about 1/8 into the reel that you can actually see a (shell) or something @ walburgs eye level fly out the gun and go across screen!

Ok I just realized the shot is reversed (M) and that is the shell flying out of the chamber but it is a mirrored image...
going left not right! from a front point of view.
