According to the Australian Panasonic website we're getting these babies in March. Now I've been looking in newspapers and on the net and as of yet have been unable to find any mention of anyone selling these or even offering preorders or anything....and theres no rrp on Panny's site either...

my guess is the standard camera will be around the $8,000 mark and the one with the 2 8GB P2 cards will be around $13,500... eek it sounds so expensive..lol

While this isn't a primary concern for me now...as I don't even have enough money for a Canon mv800i (zr100)...lol...I thought I should bring it up so that anyone else in Oz can tell us if they know anything about how we're getting them

now I just need to get a lucky scratchie...or win lotto.....

Hi,

Absoloutely no way in the world this camera will be AU$8,000 here in Australia.

Closer to AU$10,000 for camera body without P2 cards I think....

Not really , after little Johnny Howard takes his share and GST plus the lame excuse that we are a remote country that is over taxed and underpaid I think it would be around the 12k mark. But the thing is I beleave the HVX HD isnt PAL or NTSC only the standard formate for DV is PAL or NTSC so if you in austyralia and will only be using HD why not buy from the states and have it shipped over.

I have been known to be wrong though. from time to time.

i guess you could be right...

but still...theres no way i'd be able to afford it...lol....i'd love to be able to tho

Robo,

Absoloutely, positively, definitely this camera will not cost AU$8,000.

Being a PAL model, it could sell anywhere between AU$9,500 - $12,000 here in Oz.....

ok as a point of reference the canon xl-h1 costs:

US$8,999 which is
AU$11,937.62

and I just found one selling for

AU$13,499

so yeh I can see how the markup could work....

I just hope that at some point in the future i get enough money to buy one no matter how much it costs...

Robo,
I've been working in the camera repair industry for 8 years and half of our shop is retail sales also. Retailers here have very very small margins here (2-10% generally on cameras) They're hardly marking their prices up at all. It's just that the retailer gets not so competitive pricing from the camera MANUFACTURER when they buy the camera (Panasonic, Sony, Canon, Nikon, etc)

You're forgetting same additional costs we have here in Oz...

1: 10% GST
2: Stamp Duty (2% I believe??)
3: Shipping costs
4: Customs Inspection Fees

So that figure you gave us for the XL-H1 of AU$11,937.62 actually works out to about AU$13,600 if you were to import a XL-H1 from overseas.

So if you've already found one here in Oz for AU$13,499 it would definitely make much more sense to buy it here as you'd get warranty, after sales service & you'd support an Aussie business at the same time.

Some camera manufacturers have rediculous high pricing here in Australia but it seems Canon is very close to the overseas prices.

But from early reports & their previous pricing of the DVX100, it seems like Panasonic aren't doing any favours for us here in Oz for pricing. Time will tell on its release....

I've also started a thread on dvinfo.net regarding pricing in Oz & i'd like to start one here on dvxuser once we know confirmed pricing of the HVX. If its rediculously high compared to our overseas, i'll start a petition/list of people who think their PAL camera pricing is unfair compared to the overseas/NTSC pricing.

Stay tuned.....

I've been told the camera will be AUD$10,000 and the deal with 2 x 8-gig cards will be $14K+.

Peter

Hi Peter,
If thats the case then it seems its approx AU$1,000 difference betweeen the PAL & NTSC models....
