Okay, I'm buying an HPX170, but this is a good question I think for new HVX200/200a or HPX owners. Which of these is best for someone new to either machine?

First we have Barry's HVX and HPX Book. About $85

Next is the HVX Boot Camp DVD. Vol 1, and Vol 2. Each less than $60, both for $99

Then there is the Vaast HVX DVD, with Gary Adcock. Runs about $60

Would love to hear comments. Even from those that authored them.

Are you buying a new HPX170? If so, from an authorized reseller, then it should have the book in the box.

As for our DVDs vs. the Vasst DVD... I think we should let others who have seen both answer that, but I'm very, very, very, very, very confident in our product. :)

I sort of left out Noah's Call Box DVD, though it's more about workflow of P2 with FCP. Still, worth discussing here as well as anywhere else.

Yes HPX170 for me. :love4: I can't afford and don't really need an AF100, and think of DSLRs for still photography (and the occasional specialty video shot ). Now seems a great time price wise to get an HPX or HVX200 (or just about anything else in this range it seems) for all-round video work. Look forward to your book. But I am curious how your book compares to your DVD, to others, and what people think.

I have seen both and I liked the book more because it seems to go into a bit more depth. It s also got updated sections that apply only to the HPX. I like the fact that I can take it with me anywhere and read it. The DVD is very informative, but Barry talks very fast, and I found myself pause-rewinding sections more than once. Also I didnt think it gave enough visual examples, although the ones that were given were very good. Together they are excellent, but remember, the camera functions are only the tip of the iceberg...

I can't compare DVDS, but I watched HVX Boot Camp. The book is the best resource, but just watching through and having someone explaining and pointing things out, hearing the terminolgy help understand the book better.

I've got both.. Barry's hvx/hpx book, and the bootcamp dvd. And I think they're both great! I've seen the dvd a couple of times, and I use the book from time to time when i want to look up specific matters. But if you're getting just one of them, I recommend the book. :)

Barry's Book (The HVX/HPX Book) is priceless. That book, along with this forum, will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the camera. Take that book out with your camera and practice shooting, and you will learn everything you need to know in no time.
