HVX HD vs SD for music video

I'm planning a music video shoot and am weighing the advantages and disadvantages of shooting in SD vs HD. The end product is destined for myspace, youtube, ipod, or dvd at best, so I wonder if the HD colorspace will end up making any visible difference in the end. Is it worth the extra P2 card dumps, longer rendering, etc.?

Any comments?

Shoot it in DVCPro 50. It is 4:2:2 color space.

You won't gain any additional color information out of HD. Unless you are doing a green screen key, in which case the extra SIZE of HD may help.

If those are you destinations then shooting 720 24pN will actually save space over DVCPRO 50 SD. Plus shooting 720 24pN you can overcrank and undercrank.
Of course it will take more space to shoot slo-mo but it is an option.
Then you can have a nice 16:9 HD version at the end for your demo reel.

I agree with HVXguy.

720 24pn is the way to go for me when producing music videos. undercranking and overcranking is really cool. And it still looks good when dropped onto beta or digibeta. Those are the formats that most music video networks ask for.

If your not shooting on minidv, just about everything going up in resolution is gonna look pretty much the same on youtube, myspace, and an ipod. They all look like crap when compressed down to those formats. if anyone can really point it out. Your music video didn't really entertain them.

and if harddrive space and the post is gonna be a problem. whats wrong with the dvx? A good music video doesnt have to be shot in hd. It all comes down to the music making it a good music video.
