HVX Handle replacement needed

HI all

I treat my HVX's like a fragile egg, however, on a recent trip I had a stud mounted on the handle. Unknown to me at the time, it was placed in a padded portabrace style case with the stud and an accessory still attached to the stud, it was then put into a trunk where the deck lid closed on the case, applying pressure on the stud, and it and put a crack in the handle just behind the 1/4 20 mounting stud/hole.

I was looking at it closely and believe I can replace the handle without any tech benching or factory repair rep, but I don't know where to get one or where, on panasonic's site, I can obtain a new one. It is an original HVX200. I only need the top cast aluminum (or whatever it is made of) portion, not the whole handle. The handle looks like it is made in two horizontally sandwiched pieces, with the top portion separating from the bottom.

I will jinx this and state, it looks like a pretty easy fix.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

thanks for this. I expect it will not be cheap, but, when I go to sell these one day, the fixed handle will probably pay for itself 1 or 2x over. It wasn't damaged in any other way, but if someone sees a crack in a handle, it is usually seen as an obvious sign of abuse,... when in fact this thing has been treated 20x better than I have probably treated the housing I came packaged in. ....No factory or OEM direct replacements there. :-)

Sorry, did the handle actually fall off or is it just a crack.

Just an FYI, sometiimes when a handle breaks, the motion can strip the threads in the main frame. Without these threads, your handle will not stay put.

Just a heads up.

Hello David,

The handle is 171.81. We also recommend replacing the factory screws that attach it to the body with longer ones, they are two for 4.14. Please feel free to call or eMail if you'd like to order them. We can also replace it for you, if you wanted to send it in for repair, there is a one hour minimum so you may want to do a cleaning or something like that at the same time. :)
