HVX - FS100 RawDV Conversion Issue

Well, my first run with the FS100 (which I already got rid of) has gotten me into trouble. I recorded some important material of about 40 minutes in length in 1080i x 1920 using the first setting on the FS100 as "DVCProHD RawDV" for the file format and discovered that NOT EVEN FOCUS has a use for this file format . . YET . . it's the first option in the list of set ups. WOW!

Moreover, all I want to do is convert the material into P2 card .mxf files so that I can actually use them and see them. I've contacted FOCUS and all they said was, "I'm sorry you did that," then they went on to say that they are not sure why that is there since it doesn't work on any NLE nor any other application. WOW, is that stuipd or what?

Anyway . . anyone have a solution? I'll buy conversion software if that's what it takes . . providing of course that it works . . OR . . another way? Please help, I'm under the gun to get the project out and have delayed tooooooo long already trying to figure it out.

Thanks in advance for all who try or know how to help.

Rent another FS-100, put the RAW DV onto it, and play it back on the FS-100. You should be able to capture that in your NLE from the DV port.

So THoff, I hook up the FS100 In/Out Firewire to the computer, copy the material back into the FS100, then start the NLE and capture the material via the NLE as HD 1080i?

Is there any other way to do this without the FS100? We actually returned the item since we didn't like it. We much prefer using the P2 cards because they are so simple and easy to use. Plus they are far simplier in workflow by having three or four cards to cycle and no batteries or gear to lug around or cables or weight to deal with . . especially now that the 32gb cards are forthcoming . . 3 of them = 1 FS100 - and - no batteries or cables or hook ups to worry about forgetting or losing.

PM me a link to a small sample file I can look at. I have some tools that might be able to do it, but I can't promise anything. I also won't be able to look at it until this evening (West Coast time).

Wow would I love to do this. The smallest of the four files is about 38 gb (approx. 35 mins of recording). Is there some simple way to break them up?

Again, I'd gladly purchase conversion software if someone knows of any that will work for this appliction?

The only way that I can think of that should definitely work is to rent an FS-100 again, copy the footage back onto it, and play the clips back and capture them live into a computer or onto some P2 cards.

I didn't think the Focus Enhancements devices ever created files larger than 2GB. They use the FAT32 file system but apparently use signed 32-bit integers to keep track of file sizes, which limits them to half the maximum file size supported by FAT32.

BARRY SAID: The only way that I can think of that should definitely work is to rent an FS-100 again, copy the footage back onto it, and play the clips back and capture them live into a computer or onto some P2 cards.

Let me ask this, if I rented the FS100 and copied the files back to it, is there a way could I somehow record that material to several P2 cards in some workflow process? That is, I have at my access either an 8gb AND two 8gb's - OR - an 8gb AND a 16gb (with maybe even one more 8gb)

THoff the smallest of the files is as you say. Wow would that take some up/down-load times or what? And where on earth would one load them?

Potentially, yes. You should be able to copy all the stuff back to the FS-100, and then play the clips on the FS-100 and record the live firewire stream on your HVX to the P2 cards.

But I haven't tried that so I can't guarantee that it'd work.

By chance anyway you know someone who could test it and have them contact me so that I give them the set up parameters that I used then record a short clip, upload by copy paste to their computer to verify that the file is unusable, then delete the files from the FS100 and format, copy back from the HD to the FS100, then as you say above play and record via firewire stream?

If so and it works, I'll rent the FS100 and do as the test and gladly write the whole process problem up, how you helped and suggested, then publish it here or as you would like with technical details to the process and/or co-author with you or provide support and you author.
