HVX, FS-100 and FCP 6 problem

So apparently I've run into quite the unique problem, I've looked ALL over the internet and have not been able to find a solution or anyone with the same problem for that matter...

We shot an infomercial onto three FS-100s using three HVX200s... we also had FCP 6 up and running on a MacBook Pro, ready to upload any footage should we begin running out of space... the problem I encountered when I went to import the files was thus:

ONE of the FS-100s worked fine, I pulled up the log and transfer, I saw the preview, I dragged the footage to the import box and away it went... but when I got to the OTHER two FS-100s... well, I opened log and transfer, the preview window came up just fine and I could even play back the clips in their entirety in the preview window, but when I tried the drag the files down, the little indicator watch would spin for a second and just plain stop... I'd then click on the queued item and the indicator would turn to a triangle warning sign and the warning message would say "Data Missing" All three FS-100s have the exact same firmware version and settings...

Needless to say, I panicked... the effin' data was there, I had JUST watched a preview of it... what the hell?

anyway, i SCOURED the web in search of an answer, but to no avail... nothing could help me with my problem (well, nothing I didn't have to spend $500 on) it was seriously ridiculous... I mean, the only way to get the .mxf's or whatever they are, onto my hard drive as a playable, editable format, for free... is with FCP (I couldn't find an alternative solution)

3 hours of footage, sitting right there at my fingertips and I couldn't do a thing.

What's also strange is I had tested the whole set-up before hand- to be sure it worked, and it did... anyway, I'm rambling.

To cut a long-winded story short, I went to my G5 tower which was still running FCP 5.1... as a last ditch effort I thought I could try it on an older version of FCP... and you know what?

it effin' worked.

I imported the footage on to an external drive than brought it into FCP 6 on the other computer, and cut away- (which presented some other issues, but that's a different story for a different forum)

Okay... so is there ANY one out there that has a solution to my problem?? the only thing I can think of is that there is a firmware issue on one of the HVX's (the one that actually worked importing is actually an older version of the firmware... not compatible with the 16GB P2 card... but the FS-100 it was using worked...)

Am I wrong? HELP ME! I don't want to have to keep FCP 5.1 when we've payed for the effin' upgrade.

Sounds to me you have the same problem many of us have encountered with the log and transfer window. Have you updated to 6.02 on software updates? if so that is your problem, not the footage. I have the same problem when trying to import P2.

However, you would have been better shooting straight quicktime onto the FS100 rather than P2. Then a simple case of drag and drop.

WOW... Went through all kinds of hell to figure this one out and while searching someone posted the answer here:

I have no idea why this works but it does. Go to the Log and Transfer window. From here, locate the little tasks icon top center. It's to the right of the search box at the top of the pane that displays all clips that can be transferred - looks like a little gear with an upside down triangle to it's right . . . click it and then choose "preferences." At the very top you should see a check box that says "Remove Advanced Pulldown and Duplicate Frames" It's apparently checked by default. UNCHECK IT. The box should be empty. Then hit okay and try to transfer again. Mine works like a charm now.

I think it's because FCP doesn't like the 720p/30P (The 30 P is always converted to 59.97i...) Just another growing pain for the DTE workflow!

How good is the quality when going to straight Quicktime? I mean, I could obviously just test it out myself... but some outsider feedback is ALWAYS nice...

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I don't have FxFactory installed...

That is actually something I did almost from the beginning... I was having issues with our P2 cards when importing (it was a static shot and it was recognizing FAR too many of the frames as 'duplicate' and it turned out as a strobe effect)

anyway I have clicked it and it still isn't working... firmware is up to date on all the equipment as well...

I think you're right about the 30p though, I'm shooting some test shots today at different camera settings just to see if its the whole 59.97 issue (which IS a pain in the ass and is what caused the editing problems)

But thank you for going through hell to find a solution...
