HVX for Film Finish

I'm shooting a documentary on the HVX with a film-finish required for delivery. I need to shoot 24p for the Film-Out and I don't need the variable speed ability for the doc subject matter. Can anyone clarify the difference between my choices of shooting: 1080P versus 720P versus 720P "Native Mode"?? One option offers 8 minutes/8G while another offer 20 minutes/8G...I need the highest image quality for the film finish, but do I need to shoot in the 60P mode for that? What do I lose by going for the 20 minutes/8G option? Thanks!

Great question!...very promise beggining. Welcome!

Bono, are you (Bona) VOX, himself?...

The 1080 mode will presumably be the best as far as quality is concerned for the film out. The 720 modes will also be very very good for film out, just a little bit softer. The frame rate has nothing to do with the resolution you'll get, so you don't want to shoot in 60P at all (unless you're using it for slow-mo)... just shoot in 24P for the whole thing. As far as the difference between the "native" 24P mode and the other 24P mode... both modes will work for you, the "native" mode just won't require any 2:3 pulldown (the other modes encode extra duplicate frames to conform to the 29.97 signal - these extra frames are removed later by your editing software).
So in summary, if you are concerned about saving space on your P2 cards, then use the 720 native 24P mode. If you need the absolute highest resolution for film out, use the 1080 24P mode.

Hope this helps!

Well thanks for the warm welcome, Emanuel. I've always been a reader of this marvelous forum, so I thought it time I start participating... although I must admit I don't own a Panasonic (yet!). I'm on FX1's, but like so many others, I'm looking forward to the HVX200.

thanks again,
