HVX focusing to infinity with .6x wide angle lens

I'm trying to maintain infinity focus running the Century Optics .6x wide lens adapter. What would be the appropriate focus setting/number to achieve this. When i tried infinity on the HVX things looked fuzzy. Set close to MACRO things got sharp but that seems counter intuitive. Any suggestions appreciated!

I have the same lens and you just have to leave it on Macro. Not just any macro though, you have to find the point in macro where it looks sharp and then just leave it there. From my understanding, because it is the adapter and not the converter, we are unable to zoom/focus through.

That's correct -- the Century lens changes the focus distance so you have to just focus by eye. You can't rely on the numbers or the "infinity" position.

I shot with my Century .06 yesterday, autofocus and macro are correct, because the HPX lens is focusing on the virtual image that is in the macro lens, not on the subject. It is the same as a dome port when you shoot under water or focusing on the GG image when you shoot with a 35mm adapter, your camera's lens is not focusing on the subject, it is focusing on a virtual image that is in front of it. I have found though that if you put it into macro and go manual focus, some items will be out of focus, you need to leave it in autofocus per Century's instruction sheet. While in autofocus, it never hunts, the depth of field is so deep that it just works and works well, at least mine does.

Best,

Dan

I film a lot of skiing, and while doing that, if I leave it on Autofocus, it is usually good about not hunting, but sometimes it will be off the mark for anywhere from a couple of seconds to a few minutes. And of course if you are follow camming, you aren't looking at the screen to see what is going on. That can be a huge drag coming home after a whole day of shooting and finding that every once in a while your focus is so far out of whack that the footage is no longer usable.

I am now in the habit of setting it to macro and then jsut checking it every so often to make sure it is still in focus.

Also, Puredrifting: Sometimes I will get the black vignetting in the corners, but it seems to be only when I zoom in. I was wondering if you had this problem as well? Is there anyway to get around it, or do you just have to fix it in post...

Cheers,
Ryan
