HVX/FCP Live Capture - Interesting thing....

Learning quickly, and my system (HVX/MacBookPro/FCP/HDD) is working now, so I've tried a couple of test runs doing live capture.

I found that I can capture without turning the camera to record!!! The HVX sends the signal to the 1394 when in standby mode. Anyone see a problem with this, or is this the way it works???

No problem - that's the way to do it. In fact, you can start, stop recording, change tapes, etc. while capturing through FW.

Is there a problem with timecode in this situation? Seems that timecode originates in the camera, not in FCP. If the camera isn't running during the capture, there would be no timecode - unless FCP applies its own and that is OK for post.

Also, how do you get around the issue of the P2 card limits if the camera is running during live capture? I tried to use the loop function but that is disabled in 720p/24 in DVCPRO HD.

Sorry to fire so many questions, but books and manuals only take you so far.....
