I am doing a music video shot on HVX all at 720p 60fps. The files are all 23.98 DVCPRO HD 720p60. So it's ALL slow mo. Did the post people already run these through Cinema tools because they're all 23.98 now? will my Sony deck be able to display this back on a TV, a monitor or a High Def TV? How do people watch playback when edititng in this codec?and when I'm done can I make abeautiful SD DVD from tis timeline whne I'm done? Can I make it play in widescreen but SD for today''s real world mosh of SD on 16x9 half squeeze 1/4 strech letterbox?

You need some kind of HD card for playback. You will not be able to play through firewire out like you do on DV

Blackmagic and AJA has some nice solutions

If you're in Final Cut Pro and have two monitors (where at least one have the desired resolution) you can use the digital cinema desktop function to monitor. This is not recomended for color-grading, though.

You're sorta contradicting yourself about the motion. Is it supposed to be slomo or not?

If it's not, there's something wrong with your sequence settings.
You must tell uss which NLE you're on to get specific help.

Your SD dvd will look good. -;)

what is "digital cinema desktop function?" And yes , sorry it's all supposed to be in slo mo. in a 24 frame timeline what will the smoothest playback percentage speeds be? Oh I'm in FCP 4.5

I'm in 5.1, but I think the digital cin desktop is the same place

View menu - at the bottom
In stead of "FW out" for video output, choose "Digital Cinema desktop"

As for slowing down...

You should avoid rendering a speeddown at all costs.

If it's shot at 60p, mark the shot as a 24 and throw it into a 24 timeline, then you won't run into degradation after rendering.

awesome!

awesome!

thank you so much! I can only test it on my g5 right now and I have but one monitor. But, if I use a second monitor ( a vga connected with apple's included adapter) and select view -video playback-digital cinema desktop, I can edit on a 23.98 dvcpro hd timeline in fcp on 1 monitor and watch playback on the other? BTW I was able to test the files they have on a drive and they laid into a 23.98 dvcpro HD 720 p60 without needing render and were a beutiful slo mo. If the client wants different speeds in that timeline what are safe percentages? also your movies online were very cool!

Thanks! -;)
I'll have some more up tonight -;)

Yep. That's the idea of the digital cinema desktop.

I worked like that for quite a while before getting my Panny 17"
(Which I have grown to love, btw)
Works like a charm!

Speeds? Make small tests. The speed-functions in FCP are really... not good...
If you have the chance to lay your hands on Shake, most things are possible.
