HVX/DVX Matching

I am going to be shooting a project that will require a HVX as "1st unit" cam and a DVX as "2nd unit" cam. Obviously the footage will not match completely, but I want to try and match the footage as much as possible. The HVX will be set at 720/24pn and cinegamma "D" (maybe "V").

Anything I should be careful about? Suggestions?

True. What I really want to do is match the DVX to the HVX. Not the other way around. For instance, if I have the HVX master ped set at -3, what would I set the DVX at. Unfortunately, I don't know the DVX all that well.

Ah. I had thought that because you were asking the HVX section, you wondered what to do with the HVX.

I would mirror the HVX settings as much as possible. I find they're fairly comparable. The only thing which comes to mind is that you might want to watch the DVX's noise. Maybe iris up a little bit? Don't overexpose, but the DVX is noticeably noisier at the same settings, so giving it some extra light might not hurt.

Again, comparable -- though the HVX has more detail to accentuate. As for thick/thin, I assume you're going to be uprezzing the DVX to HD? If so, thin -- give yourself as much resolution as possible.

I wonder if anyone can give some real-world feedback here? I haven't heard too much about HVX/DVX shoots.

I shot the HVX and DVX together recently. I first designed some looks that I wanted in the scene files of the HVX. Then went back and matched the settings in the DVX scene files. And the clips from both cameras were very similar. In some cases they looked identical. At least color-correctable to match.

I noticed a couple of times that the images were darker on one than the other, which probably had to do with the iris setting, having the cameras at different angles during the shoot might have resulted in different exposure.

Next time I might use the HVX to set exposure and match it on the other camera rather than running independent exposures.
