HVX Consultation: Short :30 Clip

Though I don't own an HVX, I had a chance to personally spend about 15 minutes with one while consulting for a reader of my website. Here's the end product.

I’d say about 50% of the softness you might see is due to the compression, 30% to my newness with the camera, and 20% due to the camera itself. Other than where obvious, I didn’t muck much at all with the color.

As this forum thread proves, this camera produces awesome images. All the overcranked stuff looks great....but.....well, just watch the clip.

lol... yes, welcome to the limitations of current P2 card sizes. Hopefully card offerings will increase in size (say 32GB?) with more reasonable prices soon. Until I see that happening, I'll spend my money on everything BUT the camera.
 
the size of the p2 card just adds back the discipline film had with reloading a reel - for some they dont want that discipline on digital - but if you welcome it, it can actually enhance creativity
 
I second that.... it makes me be more accountable... and also more flexible in my ability to dump unwanted clips and only keep the ones that I want...

Revolution comes with a price and is never comfortable.... Personally I couldn't see myself happy with any other low-briced HD on the market and I have messed around with all of them.. except that pesky canon.... maybe a miracle will happen and someone will opt to buy that over the HVX but so far out of my friends/acquaintances then it's like 10 - none...
 
That's why you get a P2 Store.

Also the HVX along with film cameras are kind of like sniper weapons. Highly effective in the right persons hands. But you can't just go hog wild and shoot anything that moves. Tape based cameras are like machine guns in that most people, not all, just point and shoot at anything and everything in hopes of getting something.

the great hvx analogy ever told...

I started out shooting 16mm on a old POS K3, then moved up to a slightly less POS Bolex.... so for me, when I finally get my hands on the HVX it will be a return to the discipline I had when I was shooting on those old spring wound workhorses.... I welcome that, it will be a nice change and its gonna make you work even harder to not f**k up.... which in turn will yield better results

In the context of the clip, I would say that the p2 card has helped you achieve a beautiful cliffhanger to your thriller set up.
