Hey guys... Just got done w/ a commerecial using the wonderful HVX. Finally talked the client into doing some video instead of the boring animation of still photos. Which means I got to do some shooting with my HVX. On the white BG, this cam performed amazing. Shot at 720PN. The Reds look incredible. This quicktime looks a little washed, I can't export .mov with a crap. But the HD version looks awesome!

Enjoy...

It looks good, but I dont care for the talent, or most of the framing. Just seems awkard. I also might add the VO doesnt even go with the visual.

Not trying to be defensive, but what do you think is awkward about the framing?

You have to realize as well that this company only sells used cars with high interest loans to the "credit challenged". Realizing that, we didn't want to use "professional tallent" nor was it in the budget to do so. These are mostly low income people. why would they want to buy from a place that has great looking people in suits... We wanted them to feel welcome to come into a place like this. The first sales girl is not a looker, but she was all we had. VO doesn't go with visual because there is really not much that would go with that VO except more mograph which is what I am trying to get them away from.

Regarding the framing - I think he's referring to the dutch angle OTS shots, which I also find a bit off. The framing of the african american woman doesn't work and maybe the combination of the Apple-commercial style shots with white background and the OTS shots.

Thought the motion graphics was great and VO worked fine :-)

Give the man a break, at least he is out there doing what he loves, getting paid and has the camera to do so.

I have no problem with the dutch OTS's.

It makes it a little bit different and that's a good thing. Perfect for this kind of gig.

Just my two, erm... pence.

Dethel: I dont think we anyone is trying to be mean. I can only speak for myself. Posting in this section is for people to see your work, give opinions and critiques. Some like a certain style, some dont. But if the user who posted this can take our opinions or corrective critisim, that is awesome, if not, it's just out opinions.

....the dutch angles don't bug me....I think it does ok for what it is.... what does bug me is the pacing..... it starts out like it's gonna be a relatively quick pace...and then seems to almost grind to a halt..... are you planning any graphics in the "space?"....and yeah....ditch the African American woman shot.....not her...just the shot.

I'd also say that the last shot being out of focus... I was expecting it to pop into focus.

It does have a bit of the normal people/zombies look to the talent. Refreshing actually... so that's cool. Looks like a good commercial for a local market. I"m sure you'll get a ton more..

No, I appreciate the comments. I just didn't want a reply like I didn't like that. Tell me why, and what you would have done different.

That man couldn't be used in focus for a reason... Do people not understand that when they are are going to be on camera for the "clean cut" look need to shave? I guess not... That is why we had to be creative with him. ha ha

I honestly had a problem with the talent. There are thousands of non union actors out there who will work free of charge. Looked clean though

Nice Job

Nice Job

You did a really professional job, the footage looks clean, the graphics perfect...but yes, you should go with professional talent. Remember, in advertising it is not the goal to use faces that reflect your target audience, but to use faces that reflect the way your audience WANTS to look. If you want to sell to NASCAR fans, you don't find someone who looks like they would be found in the crowd, but someone who would STAND OUT in that crowd. So someone who could fit in, but would be one of the best looking faces in the crowd. Think Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights, not Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder. And the framing of the African-American woman was odd, and pulled me out of the ad. But good job. It makes me want an HVX...

Good job over all. Yes the framing on the girl was off/odd. Next time hire actors, everyone was either overweight or had bad teeth. It may be shallow but it really makes a difference.
