Yes, another test. All the stuff I'm shooting is helping figure out what I'm going to do. This time its in camera SLOMO to test that out and
this time I used better lenses for most of the shots. I used a Nikkor 50mm f1.2 and 28mm f2 along with the other cheap lens. The difference in clarity is like night and day but the texture the cheaper lens has in something I really like. Also no vignetting with the Nikkors.
Didn't have it zoomed in all the way too... thats the black on the right hand side of the images.

Movie now up!!! EnJoY!!!

What's the dark line on the side? Really clean from the Brevis, though. Lacks that smeary look that's common in Brevis footage.

Thanks for sharing.

These grabs look infintely sharper than the last ones - it that all just the difference between the lenses (the last bunch had a lot of chrom ab fringing on the edges)

Nice BTW!

Dressing warmer? Waiting for nicer weather?
I just went out for an hour to try out the new lens and to try out slomo settings. These little tests are leading up to an experimental I have an idea for. I love the 28mm, I want to try something a little wider and see what I get. I also want to try a wide angle zoom and see what that does.

Thanks guys. I used the LCD and the focus helper thingy. I would press the button and try to focus on a hair or something really thin cause if that looks ok then you know the rest wil look ok. :)

Just got my new music from Justin Durban so I should have a quick edit up in a day or two.

Aram, that's what I like about you. You go out and shoot pretty stuff...and let guys like me worry about bokeh thingies :-)

Wat be a bokeh? :P
I edited the original post. Movie now up with my in camera slomo test. Isn't as nice as the other vid because I ran outside with the kids even though I wasn't supposed to for an hour. I just got the itch to try the new lens and in camera slomo.

Wow! That really captured the slow-mo wonderfully! Makes me wish to save up my money and fly you out here to shoot my film :)

Was that your daughter again? The same girl in 5B?

I really miss the snow here in sunny cali. :)

Nice stuff Aram. What's the longest lense you've played with? Just curious, what zoom/focus settings do you have the hvx at? I'm at 9 for focus and 78 for zoom. I'll test my 200mm zoom in the next couple days and try to see how far I can go w/o vignetting with zoom at 82 (think that's the most you can go). I've only played with my brevis just a couple hours but I'm pretty sure I'll be ok with just the lcd(thingy) and focus assist too.

Are you doing Spyfest? If so what's your flick?

Just let me know and I'll pop some dramamine. :)
Both girls are my daughters and both are in a few joints. 5B was the older one, RF EYE-D was the younger one, and Mi-RoBoT was both. :)

I really miss the sun here in snowy ass NY

The 70-200 I guess is the longest but cheap quality. The zoom and focus settings change everytime I turn the camera on during these shoots. Sometimes I use the lens aperature and sometimes I use the iris on the camera. I never even looked to take note on what the settings are, I just look and see if it looks good in the LCD. You will find just playing with it and adjusting everything all the time is best. I am not sure if I'm doing my own. I may team up on someone else's joint this time again. It's much easier :) Plus I'm still working on my hit man short working out all the little details since its complicated but I think I'm over thinking the idea because its slowing me down.

Looks like you're getting chromial aberations on the wide angle lenses. The 28mm. I've seen the same thing happen with wide angle lenses attached to DSLRs. Odd....

Nicely executed slo motion. Thoght the girl on the stairs waving her arms - looks like it could use a re-crop as I only see her head for about 1/2 second, though her body is in the frame for about 2 seconds.

P.S. I've got about 60 - M42/Pentaxt Screw mount lenses and am in NYC if they work with your adapter and you want to test them out, PM me.

Aram, sorry to bring up the focusing again, but I am intrigued. There has been a lot of talk on the board regarding focusing with a 35mm adapter and that you need a separate monitor. I have no doubts that it helps a great deal and yet your shots are so sharp.

Not trying to pull the thread away from your footage (too good anyway) But would anyone else like to comment on the fact that Aram has managed to get such sharp images without using something like the Marshall. Could well save me £1000 if I thought I could do without it...

Aram how long did shots take you to set up? Have you found the more you use your set up the easier you find the focusing...

Yes definitly the more you use it the easier it gets, even being upside down. You get faster hitting the focus button on and off too. The focus helper button works wonders to me. I'm sure having a marshall would help too, but more for moving the camera the right direction during tracking shots. I'm already used to framing upside down in the short time I had the camera. When I get my own HVX I will definitly get a marshall though. For any type of narrative shots that are not locked down its a must I bet. As for the sharpness, I don't think they are at their best. The full rez to me isn't as sharp as I think I can get it but thats in a still image. When its moving it looks sharp as hell. Also, its hand held so the camera is moving and the subject so it would be impossible to get super sharp images because of the motion blur that happens. It's pretty hard to go frame by frame and find one thats nice and sharp for a screenshot but I sit there and go frame by frame until I see one thats the sharpest. :)

I don't have a Pentax mount for the Brevis.

nice footage! It was really clean, how much did the Nikkor 50mm f1.2 end up costing you? I just found a cheap 50mm canon FD at a local store today, but those images make we want to get a nikkon mount. :)
