(HVX Bootcamp) What would you like to know?

Well folks, we have one day together and of that, much will be spent just divining the technical aspects of the HVX. So I thought I'd ask you all what aspects of digital cinematography you'd most like to see covered.

Please understand I could easily spend a whole day covering just one of these topics so it's important that I know what matters most to you.

And please, if you haven't signed up for the 8th, don't vote. I'd like to be fair to the participants who have paid for this seminar.

Thanks,
Evin Grant

Thr PRO and CONS of the 35mm adapter.
How to view HD footage in the edit (I assume most WON"T have DECKLINK cards)
How to light for HD with a meter. I think alot of video shooters need this.

I'll second on both of the above topics.

Also, if Focus gets the FS-100 out in time (and assuming someone is able (Abel?) to grab one), see it's use incorporated into the workflow.

Indeed!

A rundown of the scene file settings and their effects

1394 Dumping / Streaming

Methods of organizing / archiving and long term P2 storage

I produce military recruiting videos, any tips that could help from an in-the-field production standpoint would be great.

[Maybe a rep from Panasonic could stop by and explain why it seems the only somewhat effective way to organize P2 is on a PC, while the only effective way to edit is on a Mac? ;) ]

I second (or in some cases thrid) the above items, especially lighting. I would also like to learn a bit about minimizing the noise in low light situations.

Sorry guys, I ment to hold off posting this till I had a more clear idea of the format of the seminar. I'll post a poll when I do. Till then please feel free to make suggestions.

Yes indeed. Thanks Evin.

Just a note as well, all attendees to Bootcamp will have access to a dedicated special section here that only they can access.

1. Strategies for minimizing noise, both lighting and camera settings.
2. Strategies for getting basic exposure right and then creative use of exposure.

Also getting the best blacks!

By the way, I've got an M2 adapter and some Nikon lenses. I can bring them along if any of you are interested. I'm thinking, though, that we will want to optomize our time with our mentors and the M2 might be a distraction.

I'm looking forward to this! It's going to be fun!

I'd like to know if there is a possibility of a bootcamp being positioned on the east coast. As we do have an Abel Cine Tech in the NYC! Any takers? Huh? Guys?

The smoothest on set P2 workflow.

And how about simultaneously recording sound to Pro Tools (which requires it's own external HDD) while recording video to FCP or an external HDD.

Wow, so much . . .

Workflow with HVX/P2 cards, Fig Rig/Varizoom controller, Marshall 7" HD/SD monitor, Manfrotto 503 head, PC laptop with external firewire drive, Avid Xpress Pro HD (workstation off set). I can bring all of that except the Avid workstation.

Also, I want to learn more lighting techniques especially for night/shadowy/dark shots as to eliminate (distracting) noise.

Thanks!

Workflow issues for sure. But more importantly, can there be a transcript for everything discussed that day. Make it accessible in the exclusive "bootcampers" section.

I´d like to know all the basics that were mentioned before (settings, 35mm adapter) and some recommendations about the extra-gears you need. (light dolly, steady cam, figg-rig, microphones, varizoom, filters, etc.)
Are you allowed to travel to Cuba for a workshop? The film school in San Antonio de los Baños would be a great place for people from Latin Amercia. Or Altos de Chavon in the Dominican Republic. Recently they organize a lot of cinematographic workshops there - with a great view over the valley where they shot the helicopter-scene of Apocalypse Now!

Hey BigMike,

I ordered the M2 adapter with the Nikon F mount, so I'd be interested in seeing your rig.

I'd like to see filters covered. I also need a basic intro to the menus but that sounds like that will be covered.

thanks!

Before it will work, you need to make sure you order an 82mm to 72mm adapter ring. I just picked up mine today.

Done and done. Got it in the mail already. Now to wait 4-6 weeks for the M2!
