HVX Book included with camera purchase?

Jan,

Any chance you can bundle the HVX Book with a camera purchase? I personally thought the DVX Book was much more detailed and informative than the user's manual, and I would expect the same from the HVX Book. It really should be essential reading for all camera owners. I know the HVX is new and you don't really need to offer any incentives, but this would be a great value add for your customers.

Which book, Sum? Barry's? His book won't be out until sometime early next year (see here), so it can't be bundled with the first shipments. Given that Panny didn't bundle it with the DVX until pretty late in the game, I'd expect them to do the same--if at all--with the HVX.

Yes, of course Barry's book. Maybe the early adopters can get a coupon that they can cash in when the book comes out.

Dudes - its 11.42pm in Las Vegas - laugh - let the man sleep ;)

However my thoughts would be that Panasonic would not include this in the first release of the HVX200. Manufacturers rarely give much away on the initial release of any brand new product... When I heard that the Panasonic US was doing this (through this forum!!!) - I was taken aback with shock!! Not many manufacturers do this at all.... (especially outside the US).... eg. you don't get a $70 aftermarket with a 1DsMkII, a Mac, Shake or XSI - I think its great that Panny are doing what they are doing with the book for the DVX100!

When its been out for a while - they'll likely include it - but the HVX has to earn its keep - get back the R&D costs and start making money on it....

My 2c anyway....

Cheers, Nathan.

they'll squeeze out all the inital buyers (which will be a lot of people) before putting any extras in the overall package.

after the intial buyers buy their HVX's, they will then target the "hmm, should I buy this?" buyers... this is when they will add all the goodies. and of course, P2 cards prices will have decreased too

my two cents

Well, actually, that's because it wasn't written until pretty late in the game; the first edition was first printed in early November 2004. But as far as Panasonic goes, they were very quick to act; it was included with DVX100As starting in January 2005. Panasonic wasted no time at all! :)

As far as the HVX goes, I don't intend to wait two years until the book's done this time! So it will be ready much sooner, but whether it gets bundled, that still remains to be seen -- obviously launching a brand new product line is quite complex, and I'm sure they're having to make some serious decisions about how to allocate their available marketing dollars.

I'm grateful and honored that you have found value in the DVX Book and have such confidence in the forthcoming HVX book! Ultimately the decision on whether to include it is, of course, in Panasonic's hands.

P.S. I love the coupon idea, I think that's perfect!

Me too! And to PAL bundle(s?), as well...c'mon Pana! We are also sons of God!...

<PS> And please, Barry, don't forget the PAL users, as well, the 24p/60i <-> 25p/50i issue...

I put as much PAL info into the DVX Book as I could; Panasonic NZ bundled it with all cameras sold in New Zealand, and Panasonic UK also bought a bunch of them. The HVX Book/DVD will be as PAL-complete as I can make it.

Thanks for the clarification, Barry.:)

Jan replied to the book question in a different thread, so I thought I'd include it here just for completeness. Thanks for listening to your customers.

Hi everyone,

There is a lot of work to be done between now and the official roll out at DVExpo. We might be able to post a frame grab or two before then, but I think that it will be difficult to get something really good up much before then. I know, I can hear the whining already, but please you have to just tough it out. I will work on some frame grabs. How is that?

Thanks for your patience.

On the other part of the discussion, Barry and I are discussing how to include a book with every camera and how to deal with the fact that the book will be done after we ship the first couple of months of cameras.

Best,

Jan

I was thinking of doing the "B" version first, that way it would force Panasonic to include all the features that I dream up; no matter how outrageous they are. Hey, I figure they have between now and the "A" version to figure all that stuff out, right?

That would certainly work in my dream world where the cameras come bundled with your books, not the other way around :)

Can you imagine! I'd have 4 or 5 HVXes for 3 or 4 hundred bucks, and I'd be a multi camera shoot freak! hahaha!
