HVX Battery Mount Issue

Yeah, but only after they make the adaptor for the existing battery. :) I don't want to be lugging an Anton Bauer battery all over Glacier N.P. :)

....an adapter that would power the HVX with Anton Bauer bats would be nice.......pretty please????

Although we could do that; it wouldn't come cheap: needs a universal AB adapter plate, and a DC/DC voltage conversion from 14.4V to ~7.9V (or close thereto), and cable. Would be at least $180 I'd say.

We have two things we could easily supply:

1)
The DVX/HVX adapter, with the correct connector; @ $25.00

or

2)
We can supply a 40Wh or 54Wh Li-Poly batterypack with correct connection to a HVX at 7.5V; $90 and $125 respectively.

could work with a brick battery. It attaches to the 7.9v plug, not the battery mount. . .

....I saw that ....but, as someone mentioned before, Zacuto had an adapter that did the same thing but at a cheaper price (if I remember correctly) that they're no longer selling. Patrick said there were some complaints about audio interference. Seems to me if there was one....then there might be another?? Am I hoping for too much?

Vidled,
Let me know when you have one that will work with the HVX and I'll put in an order right away. :)

the play on the bottom of the battery between the battery and the camera is the issue.. you can put a piece of velcro on the bottom ledge to make a sort of support for the battery when its there.

But isn't this rediculous to anyone else that we need to jerry-rig our "professional" investment....

PANASONIC!!!!!! HELP!!!!:crybaby:

very clever solution, panasonic can easily modify the housing of the battery and for those who have already broken clips repair them for free. This way they do not have to redesign the body of the cam.

So what i have done, my tabs are not broken, is to attach a battery and fill the spaces on the top and bottom of the compartment with pieces of gaffer tape making sure not to make it too thick and put pressure on the tabs. I then taped those pieces to the batteries. No more space for the battery to move or jiggle. The snugness also forces me to attach and remove that battery more carefully and not at an oblique angle. And might be helpful for rigs where there is a lot of vibration like car shots.
I think the combination of the space and the weight of the battery held on by weak plasctic tabs allows for any force to push the battery to angles that create the breakage even in a carry bag. Until Panasonic addresses this properly I think this might do the trick.

Why not put some velcro at the top ledge as well as suggested before in this thread? I agree that this kind of issue should not be there on such an expensive cam . It reminds me of the LCD hinge of the Cannon G2 still cam which cracked ofter a while of normal use. Cannon deniedthe issue for a long time but eventually confirmed the issue. Hopefully we do have to wait long before Panasonic gives a statement. Maybe Jan can shead a light on it?

Do the batteries offered on this site not have this issue. Barry/Jarred maybe you can commend on this?
its not a battery thing.. its just the fact the way the battery goes in it is 100% supported by those little tabs.. batteries are usually vertical, and the battery rests on the ledge and not the tabs.. the hvx just does something different.

The Velcro thing is just a good way to prevent it from happening (or keep the battery in there if you only have a few tabs left).

And about jerry-rigging professional equipment.. they do this to Vipers and Varicams and Lamborginis.. its one of those little reasons duct tape was invented... expensive stuff breaks.

Hi Guys,

If you have a broken tabs on the battery mount, it is covered by warranty, however in looking at the solutions offered here the one that makes the most sense to me is to transport the camera with the battery off. Sometimes when the camera is jostled around in a soft case or and inadvertant setting down on the battery corner. Not sure what to say about the long term, but avoidance would be my first strategy. Not sure if it is something that is susceptable on all cameras as I do not see this on all the cameras and we have thousands of cameras out there. The factory is watching this so if you have a problem, please have it fixed and that way we can figure our what is the extent of the problem.

Best,

Jan

thanks as usual Jan for chiming in.. nice to have the official opinion.

And ill take a photo later of how i put the velcro so you can see.. its not a contact velcro to battery.. its just the soft side of the velcro attached just to the bottom of the camera where the battery would rest if it was wider.. I used velcro because it gives it a little flexivle support like rubber would, but isnt sticky like rubber so you can slide it in and out.

you dont put any velcro on the battery.

I believe one, "Non-Destructive", long term solution could involve the plastic bottom panel fastened to the body by six screws. A new panel that actually wrapped around the back of the camera could be easily fabricated and/or manufactured, protecting the battery from forces that end up breaking the tabs.
