hvx +azden sgmx1 microphone = static noise

Does anyone know what my problem could be with this new microphone i purchased (azden sgm1. I connected it to my hvx and all i hear is loud annoying cackling sounds . I tried different settings on the audio in the camera but nothing works.

Can someone offer any suggestions?

First thought is... you bought an Azden microphone. That could be your first issue. Secondly I would check your mic cable to see if it's bad. Swap out another cable and give it a try. Thirdly make sure your mic/line switch on teh front of the camera next to the lens is in the proper position. Finally, if it is a battery powered mic make sure your battery is good.
