Hvx Avid Adrenaline Workflow Ideas

I’m looking to make the HD plunge and wanted to get some ideas on workflow and archiving HVX media (MXF).

Here is my current workflow in SD: Digitize Mini DV and Beta at 15:1s(OMF). Edit offline 15:1s. Once the rough edit is complete batch capture tapes at DV25. Then export timeline to QT reference, transcode to mp2 & mpa finally author to DVD.

My grand idea with the P2 cards would be as follows: Transcode MXF files to some type of low res SD 16x9 or HD format then archive to 4.7GB DVD. Edit low res format. Once the rough edit is complete batch import files at DVCPRO HD. Then export timeline to WMV9 finally author to HD-DVD.

Thanks

Did you get any help on this topic? I'm working on a film that bought a Panasonic HVX-200 and is wanting to post on Adrenaline and HD Express Pro. Would love to share notes / hear about other people's experience doing this.

I noticed something in Xpress Pro HD a few days ago... I was cutting on a 720 24p timeline and my computer skips around a lot since it can't handle full-res HD.

I started a new project, SD 24p project and imported my sequence from the HD project. It came in fine and I could play back everything SMOOTHLY!

I didn't go so far as to continue cutting, but I wondered if I could just edit in the SD timeline then re-import back to my HD project for the final render.

It makes sense, and seems easier than doing 15:1 offlines.

Just a thought -- might work and might help some folks out.

My current workflow is to import the MXF files and cut on an HD timeline, export to DNxHD and then encode to SD in Procoder.
