HVX + Audio Technica 4073a=distortion

I love this mic but its extreme sensitivity during say... live music events causes massive distortion, especially with lower octaves at high volume . Adjusting sensitivity in camera has no positive affect. Anyone have any workarounds or ideas? Mic is plugged direct into HVX by the way.
 
I had the same thing with my Oktava 012 when shooting a concert. i was very close to the speakers and I don't think it was the mic. I put the levels tp the minimum. My uneducated guess is that the vibrations or the frequencies of the music were doing it.
