HVX Around the world in 8 days

Another cameraman and myself took the HVX around the world in 8 days. Documenting the Gumball Rally (gumball3000.com) we gave the p2 workflow a pretty good test. I literally had to to put a laptop and hard drive on my lap, holding onto it transfering cards and files while going racing around corners at over 130mph. I must say it was the hardest working conditions I've ever been in (several nights with zero sleep) but it was fun (?). Anyway I've been a non registered reader of dvx for several years learning alot and I feel like now that I have this camera I'm much more inspired to make a better product.

Some lazy questions:
Q#1. Anyway to "lock" a clip in the card so as to not accidentally erase when erasing clips in the camera?

Q#2. Anyway to make the clip thumbnail in the camera show the last frame as supposed to the first frame.

Probably embarrassingly easy answers to both.

Thanks for your help
Jared

There is a slid rec INH sw on the side of the camera. When you insert the card in the camera look at the card after inserting the SW is right there. Flip the SW and you can not record or Erase on the card just like good old days of tape.

Q#2. Anyway to make the clip thumbnail in the camera show the last frame as supposed to the first frame.

In the P2 Viewer you can change the thumnails and replace with anyframe from the whole video including last frame.
The P2 Viewer is available on the Panasonic website.

JoPo did you make it to the Playboy Mansion?
I was at the party but didn't go on the rally this year.
Did last year tho... Drove the biodiesel rangerover car #3.
Were you on it last year?
I hope you didn't have that HVX hanging out the window doing 130...
or did you? Post us a link of some rushes if you havn't already.
I'm sure Max won't mind.

P2Metro, thanks for the response but I guess I didn't really clarify what I was asking.
For #1. I'd like to save a clip while viewing the clip in the camera. Not really a big deal in most shooting situations but for me it would be very useful. I at times find it useful to quickly delete clips in the camera in between takes (shooting sports).
#2. Again I appreciate the help but I was thinking of the "IN CAMERA" frame that the clip is identified with.

* Kai, I was in one of the two "production Range Rovers". We were packed so damn tight that we were all carry extra crap on our laps. I had so many chargers and drives going it was freaking hilarious. We had a roof rack with 3 extra car batteries and rediculous amounts of equiopment. I thought it we ever had to break hard, I'd be killed by all sorts of lovely video gear flyiing through the back of my head. If you were online watcing all the cars, we were more or less in last on every leg.

* Z, no I bailed on the playboy mansion. I was hired to specifically shoot a crew of skaters and bikers that didn't go to the mansion so I had enough of the "sausage fest" and I really wanted to go home to actually sleep with a women (fiancee). Normally I'd be on it but I have been there before and the percentage of guys to women isn't what you dream about. Regarding shooting out the windows and sunroofs, I found it very hard to stick the camera out window while going faster than 90MPH. The winds became to high and it was just to hard to hold steady for my skinny arms. I may try to figure out how to post some stuff early next week. There were some amazing scenes. Some amazing wrecks but luckily no one got hurt.

Yeah the gumball is so unpredictable that even shooting DV can be a challenge. Your camera can end up in the trunk becuase you were focused on getting directions to the next party...

Not a project I would even consider shooting on film ;-)

Exactly! :-)

Each has it's place.

Digital or Chemical it's all about choices.

Some choices, as in this case, are easier than others.

Personally, I think it's fabulous that Chemical and Digital are competing with one another.

It only raises the bar.

Yes, OK and?

I think I've established that I love BOTH film and digital, and while i have a very high opinion of film (which, on this board, projects to be VERY high only because the vast majority of people on here are NOT film people) for certain projects I never said it should be shot for everything.

Honestly, this is hardly the thread to hijack to make some sort of point that doesn't exist.

I was just checking. ;-)

The way you threadjacked DMX and Lou Diamond Phillips To Star In HVX shot film one wouldn't know. I mean, according to you in that thread, film was the be all end all.

Glad to see you've come to your senses.

Last post in this thread off topic...then you can take it to PM.

I never said it was the end all be all. I stated it wasn't dead. Cost comparison for a big studio feature to shoot (and even small budget trying to get theatrical release) are no cheaper then shooting on film...which makes HD just another tool. How many times do I have to say its just another tool.

I am probably more excited then anyone on this board to see what Superman Returns will look on the big screens. I plan on seeing it on film projection and hopefully digital projection.

I embrace HD and video. And I have taken great strides to know as much about it as I can to supress the spread of misinformation around (a big reason it took HD so long to take off in the film world.)

So, you can follow me around and do all the checking you want. I know where I stand.

So, lets leave this guy's thread alone. Because its actually a really cool topic.

Jopo, did you take any pics from the event?

Glad to hear you are on the "Video" and particularly the HD Video bandwagon.

And for the record this is absolutely germane to the thread.

In fact, that's essentially JoPo's point:

That's incredibly awesome!

Can you imagine any other camera that could pull this off?

It's almost as if the HVX was custom made to suit his purpose.

Compact, Solid State (Rugged), Fast, and affordable.

What could even compete!?!?!?!?

This is why the HVX will be bringing us images that were simply unattainable even a few months ago.

But as always, thanks for playin' ;)
