Just opened my Hoya filter to attach to the HVX. The inner metal ring was popped out.... I pushed it back in and it looks fine and secure. Is this how they come or will it pop out and scratch my poor HVX lens....the horror.
I've had it happen a couple of times with circular filters. The retaining ring can pop out. It's not a big deal putting it back as long as it looks secure.
Yeah, mine was popped out too and also pushed it back in. The thought of it popping out and scratching the lense also occurred to me. I guess that's pretty common. Nice to know I'm not the only one.
Careful with the Hoya retaining ring. I wouldn't trust it if you are doing anything with a lot of shaking or vibration (car rigs, in particular) Once the Hoya metal has lost it's integrity it's much more likely to pop out again.
Just wondering if the ring is supposed to be broken at a spot or iis it supposed to be an unbroken ring. I looked at another filter I had and it was also split so I kinda assumed that it was supposed to be that way. The fear spreads.
have u found that the Hoya filters tend to be more of a b*tch to clean? I have a hoya uv, and it is a pain in the ass, the tiffen on the other hand is great. Oh yeah, buy tiffen filters.
I like the Hoya digital circular polarizer better than all others. The tiffen filters are better made, and I would go with them for anything but circ pol.
The ring is split, but a dab of super glue will fix that at the slit/tightening ring.
I would exchange it for one that is already tight, and then add a dab of superglue to the slit, so it doesn't come out.
