HVX and hard case layout

I may be flying soon to do some shoots w/ my HVX, so I bought a Pelican 1510 on Thursday. I wasn't sure how people set theirs up, so I would appreciate some feedback on the layout I used for fitting everything inside - just my batteries and a wide-angle adapter at this point, though I plan on putting in a shotgun mic when I get one.

What do you guys think?

I like having the hvx right side up when setting down the case so I would flip the foam 180 but I dont think that it is a problem.

yeah, I didn't think about the shotgun mic thing until I had already started pulling foam out. I will probably flip it around to keep room for the mic.

Otherwise, though, do you guys typically keep the foam form-fitting like that?

There is another thread, which includes pictures, about the proper orientation of the HVX in the 1510. I am sure a search would find it. According to that thread, you should flip your foam both ways, so that the camera rests on the back (not on the lens) when you are rolling it on the wheels and the on the bottom of the camera when you use the handle.

I don't know how critical this is, but that is how I set my 1510 up, and it wouldn't be hard for you to do. All you have to do is flip your foam along both axis.

turn the foam 180 deg, the bottom of the camera should face the spine and the lens of the camera should be up when pulling on wheels. This way when you store it (handle up), the camera is not upside down.

That's pretty close to how I set my 1510 except I did the 180 thing and set the camera 2-3 cubes from the bottom end so I can get my charger/power supply in also.
My lighting guy laughed and said the 1510 was too small, but I think it's a perfect size for taking just the camera to and fro. We just took it on a 4 state shoot and I was always able to keep it with me.

P.S. I still don't recommend rolling the case over rough surfaces any more then you must. Bouncing in foam is still bouncing! :)

Here is my 1550 Case. I notice that everyone stores their HVX without the battery attached. Why is this so? Is it bad for the battery to be stored on the camera? Also, the empty space was where my Firestore went (before I sold it). Before that I had a different configuration for my P2 Store (before I sold that). Who know's what is next.

This is the Hardigg im2500 - very close in dimension to the 1510. This case, without Gatorade or baby formula tucked inside, still meets all TSA / NTSB carry-on requirements. Be nice to the TSA officials - offer to participate in a hand inspection if necessary - and you'll always (or almost always) be able to carry your kit on with you.

OIS cameras should be oriented lens up when wheels are on the ground, baseplate down when the case is handle up.

Turning the foam 180 degrees would be much simpler than what I suggested. So much for my spatial abilities.
