Hvx And GoPro

Hey everyone,

I have a question here, the GoPro shoots in 30fps and 60fps. I mostly use it only to capture driving videos for montages I make and then I shoot everything else on my HVX but I shoot the HVX in 24fps while the GOPRO shoots in 30fps. What should I do in this case? From this point on shoot both in 30fps or just mix the GOPRO footage and deal with the somewhat awkward results the Final Cut Pro give me with the GOPRO clips in the 24fps time line? Any tips from you guys on how I could possibly change the GOPRO footage into 24fps to match it? Thanks for reading.

One way would be to conform the GoPro footage through Cinema Tools to convert it to 24fps, with the resulting ~20% slow-mo.

or, set the gopro to the pal rate of 25 fps and slow it 4%, maintaining individual frames to avoid blending.

That is a good idea, however I live in North America. Once I export my final project from Final Cut Pro would the .mov file still play fine on Blu-Ray?

The Pal rate is available to one and all...it is an option from an update a year ago or more.

  • [h=2]Can I record in the standard PAL 25/50 fps rates?[/h]
    • Yes, provided that your HD HERO camera is loaded with the latest firmware update. This functionality makes it easier to edit the HD HERO videos together with any other videos recorded at PAL 25/50 rates.

as far as anything FCP, I have no idea.

I was assuming you had one of the ones that can not do 24p but I thought assuming was not a good idea. You do know the Hero2 can do 24p.

It will have 24 when Gopro releases the Pro tune update. Get out your drum and get in line...make lots of noise. They keep pushing back the release date.

We I assumed again. I do not own one as I am saving for the BMCC but I saw the news months ago and figured it was already out.

So until that update happens would you recomend that I just shoot in 30fps? I won't be using the audio for the most part, mostly just video of my buddies and I at the bars and timelapse footage from driving around mixed in with interviews and whatnot shot on my HVX in 24fps.

25 conformed or played frame for frame (disable blending) gives you very slight slo mo, more pronounced at 30 given the same treatment, your choice.
