HVX and FS-100, Small issues...

Just finished my first major project using the Firestore and HVX. Everything worked great 95% of the time. My only problem was that during one recording session we could not get the FS to respond to the HVX. I had it set on the correct 1394 control setting yet the FS would start to record then stop after 1 sec or so. The problem was usually fixed by shutting the HVX on and off while leaving the FS on. This caused a small delay and we missed some good sun, anyone know what this could be about?

My real question is about importing into a computer. We got the drive connected and it noticed the files, all the Gigs i needed were there but it dident coencide with what the book said, we havent been able to check the content in an editing system yet so I'm a bit curious about this: in the book it says "Open the folder with the most recent date code (for example, 20004456-34254)" and that folder should have similarly labeled .mov files in it. After organizing P2 in the FS that folder appeared empty. Everything had been formatted and moved into the content folder and turned into MXF. I backed up into the computer both before and after "Organizing P2" in the firestore just in case.

Is the correct way to import always to organize to P2 first? Considering we will be using Final Cut with HD support do I always want to take this step before importing? Besides this small confusion everything is working great.

Also is there a way to playback through the firestore into the camera and then stream out to an HD monitor? I noticed that when using blayback from a P2 card the HD image streams out to the monitor thru the component cable, but when using the firestore it only works in the camera, is this a lack of firewire support for thumbnails in the HVX or a small setting issue?

Thanks!

now that everyone has seen BARRY responded to the post everyone else wont try and answer the more "nubish" questions in my post. They will just figure that he has solved the problem. why u gotta do that to me? =P

Yes, always organize P2 before importing. My workflow, as it is for many others, is to transfer the contents file and last txt file to an external harddrive...then import into FCP.

Our import problem was pretty simply solved, the six folders AUDIO VIDEO CLIP ect were not in a folder titled "CONTENTS" it was named something else, thats why nothing worked. Silllyness

Furthermore, would anyone know why the Firestore refuses to organize my reels? I run through the clips assigning reel 5 for example, go to organize reel only to come back and find the files no longer associated with reel 5

=P

Reels cannot be used with P2 MXF recordings as the files must go into the CONTENTS directory for import to NLE systems. When version 3.0 is released, you will be able to record in QuickTime format allowing you to use Reels.
