Hvx and Audio with shotgun mic question.

I'm wondering how come I don't get both fields of the audio?

I have my shotgun mic hooked into the front of the hvx. I flip the mic input switch by the xlr cable. Then I open the LCD Screen and flip the switch Channel 1 to input one.

The audio from the shotgun mic only comes out on the left side of the stereo track and not the right. Or the other way round.

How can I make it record on the L and R side of the stereo track.

thanks,

steve

From what I've read about the HVX (don't actually have mine yet... waiting with great anticipation for UPS next week!!) it doesn't have stereo channels. It's got two mono channels which can be set to stereo in post. So when you're monitoring on your camera, you're always going to get channel one coming out of the left side of your cans and channel two coming out the right side.

All y'all pro users out there, if I'm wrong, please correct me!

In HD modes the camera always records 4 channels of audio, even if nothing is plugged in. So if you have one mic plugged in to channel one you have only one channel of audio for that input. So if you wanted to make it "stereo" you would have to duplicate it in post.

However, if you are using only one of the inputs then always use INPUT 2. that way when you switch the channels on the side panel you can have both channels 1 & 2 be connected to input 2. That will save you from post duplication.
