HVX and Apple HD editing system?

Hey all,

Does anyone know if there are any Apple FCP turnkey HD editing systems for around $3,000-$5,000? The lowest I have seen is around $6,000+. We are shooting with the Panny HVX200 and would prefer to stay with Apple however a PC based turnkey editing system would be an option too.

Any good reputable places to buy these systems?

depends on how comprehensive of a turnkey system you want...

if all you want to do is edit via hvx/p2 on a mac with fcp. all you need is:

1. computer with at least 2 gig ram
(macpro, macbook pro, even specific older g5's work superbly) - min of about $1500
2. min 23" monitor - min of about $700
3. external drive (id suggest a minimum of a fw800 drive) - min of about $250
4. fcp suite - $1299

thats just under $4000

if i were just wanting to get into a VERY HVX friendly mac system, i'd:
- shop for the last G5 they made (the quad) - i still use this as my main machine and it rips through hvx footage without hardly blinking!
there are still several dealers who have these NEW
- buy a dell 24" monitor (TWO if you can afford an extra $700ish)
- go to owc.com and get their mercury elite quad interface drive
- buy the fcp suite

beyond that its a subjective discussion of adobe cs tools, 3d software, various plugins, audio software/hardware, broadcast monitors, bigger drives, etc...

A quad core MacPro is $2500.

Monitor is your call.

Additional RAM from MacSales is about $300.00

Additional internal SATA drives are about $100.00.

Add a 20 inch monitor is about a grand.
