everytime I load a 720p clip in after effects the clip loses color en the levels change
in a very bad way ( all washed out ).
Anybody has the same problem ?
I`m working on a mac with fcp 5.04.
Do I need after effects 7 ?

What are your output settings?

Are you using a Qt ref?

I know in Avid you have the option of using a 601 colorspace or RGB.

You could play with these options.

I thought I was the only one to have that problem (or so Adobe tells me).
I've been working for the past 10 days or so with the Adobe support team and they have no clue of what's wrong.
They even had me install a new system on a clean HD and ONLY install AE and I still have the problem.
This happens in every codec but for "animation".
If you own your version of AE PLEASE call Adobe tech support so they can see that the problem is real and they don't act like I'm from some other galaxy.
Thanks in advance,
E.C.

What you are seeing is not the fault of After Effects, but simply that video captured with a video camera (and shown on a TV) has different light and color levels than is used on a computer monitor.

Here's a comparison of the two:

I suggest you learn more about digital video. A good starting point would be these excellent books or this great DVD set.

PS: If you have AE7 (well worth the upgrade cost) you can have AE expand the video luminance levels to computer levels by checking this box in the "Interpret footage" dialog:
